Mosaic making is fascinating and addictive. I’ve been creating mosaics for interiors and gardens for many years. Fable-London create exquisite, hand-crafted jewellery that brings together modern technology and traditional techniques. I am self taught and create multiple plate Linocuts using a traditional letterpress at the Gloucestershire Printmaking Co-operative where I am a member.

I draw my inspiration for my work mainly from British flora and fauna. The style of work is strong and graphic and often references the Arts and Crafts movement which has rubbed off on me after living in the Cotswolds for a decade where the movement is in evidence all around.

Fiona Chapman

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: Scotland

My range of colourful, light-weight jewellery is made using my own technique for fusing polypropylene plastic. Exploration and experimentation are key to my development as a maker: naturally inquisitive and fascinated by materials and their properties, I am always wondering “what else can I do with this?”. I use recycled materials whenever possible, creating almost no waste, every scrap of plastic can work its way into a new piece. I like to work intuitively, with pieces evolving at the bench. I am inspired by geology and microscopic life, with light, transparency and reflection becoming increasingly important since moving to the west coast of Scotland.

Fiona West

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: Midlands

My work is inspired by contemporary Japanese architecture that is modernist and geometric in style. Fusing 3d computer technology with traditional gold-smithing skills enables me to produce geometric shapes that are hand-finished to create a range of contemporary geometric jewellery. Each piece encapsulates the simplicity of the line. Prior to my jewellery career I previously worked for 15 years in Human Resources for a major publishing company. Wanting to make use of my creative skills, I decided to embark on a career change and studied for 3 years at Buckinghamshire New University for my BA (Hons) Jewellery Degree and I graduated in 2010. Since graduating in 2010 I have established my workshop in Oxfordshire and will be showcasing my work in the Newcomer’s Gallery at this year’s British Craft Trade Festival in Harrogate.

Catherine is a designer maker from Devon who creates handmade silver jewellery which incorporates brass, copper and bead work. A fascination with birds inspires a lot of her work – drawings of birds watched from her Dartmoor studio and on travels further afield are incorporated into the designs for each piece. She tries to create designs which are delicate and include movement to evoke some of the qualities of the birds which she studies. Catherine is largely self taught and developed her style working with bird imagery, contrasts between Silver and Brass, engraving and oxidation techniques.
