White Light Ceramics

category: Ceramics

region: North West

White Light Ceramics was set up in 2015 by ceramic artist Rebecca Louise Broad. After graduating from university with a first class honors degree in Ceramics, Rebecca set up her studio in the lovely Cheshire town of Middlewich.

Using a combination of porcelain and black clay, Rebecca creates a range of both sculptural and functional work.
Using an intricate hand building technique, Rebecca strives to push the boundaries of the material while still retaining the tough nature that ceramics has to offer.

Rebecca’s work ranges from delicately elaborate large scale wall pieces and sculptures to small scale vases, mugs and beakers

Whitethorn Woodcraft

category: Furniture & Wood

region: South West

Glenn White and Kelley Hann handcraft bespoke furniture using reclaimed or sustainably sourced wood in their workshop near Haytor, Dartmoor.

With a background in the traditional timber framed building industry, we use time honoured techniques to create fresh, contemporary designs. The majority of our pieces are joined with mortise and tenon joints then secured using oak pegs. We believe that our furniture should not literally cost the earth, preferring hand tools and sourcing materials locally.

We love character in our materials. Awkward grains, knots, splits and cracks are a beautiful distraction from the homogeny of mass production, a stamp of natural authenticity.

Wolf in the Shed

category: Glass

region: North West

I work with fused and stained glass. I am fascinated by the way light works with colour. There is importance in the time of day, the weather, or a reflection from water. Pattern and textures become visible and the angle which the light enters the glass takes on new importance.

I also enjoy the way vague blocks of colour can suggest a place or object. I create the sense of a scene through the colours melted into glass.

Recent designs have been based around using stained glass in more sculptural forms. Lead is flexible and relatively soft and it allows me to bend and alter a form as I am making.

Work is available from under £10 up to many hundreds. Working to commission is a real challenge, but I find myself developing ideas in new and unexpected directions.

Zoe Scutts

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: South East

I design and make all my ceramic pieces at my studio in Kent. The essential part of my making ethos (in a world of mass production) is that the process is completely formed by my hand so each piece is unique.

The range of pieces in my Ceramic Jewellery 2013 portfolio are inspired by nature and its forms, as well as my love for the materials I use – primarily porcelain. I use minimal glazing preferring to concentrate on the beauty of the raw material and textures that I create upon it.

Zuzana Lalikova

category: Fashion Accessories   Textiles & Stitch - Interiors

region: London

I am a textile designer maker, specializing mainly in hand embroidery. Coming from a rich cultural background I found an early interest in traditional embroidery which I was able to develop further through a degree study of Fashion textiles at London College of Fashion. I am interested in mixing traditional techniques with modern materials and vice versa, creating modern craft pieces ranging in scale from coin purses and clutches, to cushions, to wall tapestries.
