region: South East

My work is inspired by stories, poems, over-hearings and memories. I am based in Yoxford in Suffolk. Re-using materials is an integral part of my work. I like to feel that they have ‘lived a little’ with their own story to tell showing signs of ageing and how they have been treated or, perhaps, mistreated. So my […]

Bev Milward

category: Ceramics

region: South West

Hand built porcelain landscapes and figures influenced by the environment, personal events and the nature of porcelain itself. Shapes and forms of interest found in miniature landscapes, architecture, the circus and 17th Century British pottery are reinterpreted and combined in the clay to form a unique and distinctive style.

Imagery and themes are reworked and revisited but no piece is repeated. The last piece informs the next and has evolved as a continuous visual diary now spanning 11 years. Each element or symbol has a personal history or a meaning and my maker’s mark, in the shape of a key, can be found somewhere on each piece. The work is entirely hand built from porcelain, decorated with on glaze enamels, slips, lustres and more recently rare vintage lithographs.

Birgitte Bruun Jewellery

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: South East

I make a range of Contemporary Silver Jewellery, including bangles, necklaces and earrings. From my Danish roots I am influenced by Scandinavian Design; my pieces are simple, contemporary in design, timeless and accessible to wear.

I like to produce contrasts in my work, whether by texturing, oxidising or milling the Silver. I particularly enjoy shaping the metal by forging and planishing and many of my pieces involve these techniques. I also include interesting semi-precious stones in my designs and highlights of gold. My full collection and examples of commissions can be seen on my website.

I learnt the art of Silver Jewellery making through various evening classes and City & Guild Courses. I am a member of Cambridge Open Studios and participate in July each year. Commissions welcome and my Studio can be visited throughout the year by appointment.

Blighty Brights

category: Mixed Media and Recycled   Textiles & Stitch - Interiors

region: London

Blighty Brights Studio offers original textile art, in the form of handmade, needlework cushions, made using materials found in charity shops. It is amazing how much fabric and craft materials turn up in charity shops. I’m always thrilled to find long stitch kits or old sewing baskets with tapestry wools.  It is a joy compiling something new and unique using retrieved, recovered and rescued materials.  The price range is generally under £100. The inspirations are largely drawn from childhood images with a contemporary twist.

Book Transformations

category: 3D Sculptural Work   Paper

region: North West

Kate Bufton’s work is an ongoing exploratory development, manipulating the shape and form of old books. The physicality of old books is an important inspiration for her work. The stained pages hold many unknown possibilities. The rough textures and musty smells help with progression throughout her practice as she continues to explore their physical structures. By altering the original form of books through various cuts and folds they are transformed from a carrier of text to an object of art.

Bridget Bradshaw

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: Midlands

I’ve spent the last seven years learning and perfecting my craft, and spent the last four of those at The School of Jewellery In Birmingham. I love to work in precious metals but silver is my favourite. I have an extensive range of tools and enjoy using these to create designs.

I also run workshops from my home in Shropshire to suit all levels. They range from a taster session of 2 hours, where a student can learn very basic jewellery making skills, right up to an advanced level that will enable the student to design and make a piece of jewellery using a number of technical skills. All tools are provided. Metal is bought on the day by the student which is charged on the daily rate, according to a registered bullion dealer. For a whole day course, lunch is provided, and the prices start at £20.00 and go up to £75.00 depending what level the student wishes to achieve.

Bronwen makes wearable, sculptural jewellery from repurposed and recycled industrial plastics. She imbues these soulless materials with character by working their surfaces till their colours soften and they feel natural in the hand. The shapes she uses reference those worn by the sea and allude to the fact that these ubiquitous and non-biodegradable materials will […]

My work is inspired by a love of the natural world, and an interest in folklore and fairy tales. The flora and fauna of the English countryside is a reoccurring theme and I like to draw creatures well known in the landscape and part of English folklore. I’m also slightly obsessed with pattern and decoration! […]

Carin Lindberg Jewellery

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: South West

“Scandi meets Cornish”.
Natural Scandi elegance & Coastal Cornish ruggedness.
Made in Cornwall by Swedish jeweller Carin Lindberg.

The Rugged collection is inspired by the spectacularly rugged north Cornish coastline with its wild cliffs and rock textures. The ever changing colour of the waters; from pale grey-blue through vibrant turquoise, to deep emerald green. From the hazy white of sea mist and the vibrant greens of the surrounding landscape, to the moody greys of stormy skies. Textured metals and gloriously gleaming gems reflect this in a collection full of character, attitude and colour, just like north Cornwall. A piece of Cornwall to treasure and enjoy every day.

CARLSSON 1064 – Christina Carlsson

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: London

CARLSSON 1064 gives unworn jewellery a new lease of life. I repurpose and transform clients’ own gold or silver jewellery by melting it down and creating something new. The design considers the piece’s history and the jewellery is made to suit the client’s individual style and taste.

I melt down the gold, forge or mill out the shape and form and then use traditional goldsmithing techniques to create the new treasures which often include repurposed gemstones. Jewellery and gemstones can be so meaningful and have the power to hold much more sentimental value than money could ever buy.

It is such an honour to transform the unworn into something that is cherished and can have a second lease of life.

Carly Petitt-Taylor

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: North West

I graduated in 2006 from Brighton University with a First Class in Wood, Metal, Ceramics, & Plastics. Since then I have developed my work producing collection’s and limited edition ranges of wearable but unique handmade pieces.

I use many materials but predominately work in nylon monofilament, each piece is individually constructed and dyed, making every piece unique. I find inspiration from everyday observations that other people often pass by, moss on the garden wall, UHT milk pots, and fungi growing on cheese. I am obsessed with multiples, and I am very much inspired by colour, flora and fauna, science and its order and structures. I always look for new materials, and different ways to manipulate them.  My work is tactile and I encourage the wearer to change and manipulate the pieces, once handed over is out of my control. I like that the work keeps evolving without me.

Carol completed her MA in Jewellery with Distinction, at the CASS in London in 2015.  Carol has always loved stories and jewellery has become the means for her to tell her own. Her work takes inspiration from her memories, experiences and the contradictions and contrasts of life, explored in a subtle rather than explicit manner […]
