Anne V Massey

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: South East

I studied Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics at Brighton. Initially I worked in mild steel which I forged and welded, but became disenchanted with this technique and the work I was producing. I took a City & Guilds course in Silversmithing, and joined Brass Monkeys studios in Hove in 2002, where I established my current business.

I am inspired by natural forms and the rhythms of the natural world, abstracted into simple, timeless forms. All my work employs the technique of anticlastic raising, performed with hammers and mallets over plastic, wood or metal formers.  It gives light, strong, sinuous forms which are deceptively easy to wear. Many individual pieces are hammer-forged before forming to introduce texture. All my jewellery is  made from silver.

Some jewellery designs feature integral earring wires, brooch pins/ catches or loops. I feel compelled, wherever possible, to make each design from a single piece of metal. My work displays both inner and outer surfaces.

Annette Petch Jewellery

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: North East

I make intricate, delicate jewellery in silver and gold from necklaces and bracelets to earrings, cufflinks and rings. I also make tiny silver books with messages inside, little boxes to hide your secrets in, and small decorative bowls.

I create textures and forms in the metal using a technique called chasing. I am fascinated by the way the lines I chase onto one side of the metal can be altered and transformed by working from the back to form emerging three dimensional shapes.

I am influenced by the structure and texture of natural forms, such as shells, seed pods, leaves and rippled sand, and I like my jewellery to incorporate sound and movement.

Annie Coombs

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: Wales

I fabricate my Sterling Silver jewellery using traditional metalworking techniques such as piercing, forming, forging and soldering. I often add milled or acid etched texture or contrasting metal and use patination to highlight detail.
Some pieces may feature a cast element, these elements I cast myself from my hand carved master.
I draw inspiration from poems, stories and journeys through the imagination which can lead to quirky figurative pieces which I produce in limited designs. I sometimes use a text alongside a piece to provide humour or explanation about the design.

Antonia Chiappe

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: Scotland

I am a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art and am currently based at home in Fife.

Inspired by the beauty of the contrast between solid objects and fragile elements, I create intriguing items of jewellery. Influenced by familiar shapes, lines and patterns, my work draws from the everyday sources of textiles, architecture, antiques and curios. By translating feelings such as fragility, through the manipulation of materials, I can begin to explore an intangible relationship; engaging the viewer with the jewellery.

Working in precious metals, and incorporating non-precious materials such as paper and porcelain. My collections contain designs of solid forms which are complementary to the body, whilst capturing a sense of playful ornate detailing.
