Arrabella Giles Jewellery

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: South West

I use traditional silversmithing techniques to create contemporary silver jewellery. I love colour and so combine clean simple forms with sea glass or anodised aluminium which I hand-dye. Where possible, I add movement to the designs.

My inspiration comes from the glorious colours and patterns that occur naturally in plants, trees and landscapes. I reflect those colours and patterns in more linear and abstract forms in the way I dye and then cut the aluminium.

Art-Ceramics

category: Ceramics

region: South West

I am a ceramic artist inspired by the scenery of the beautiful coastline of Devon and Cornwall. Working from my studio in the grounds of Cockington Court near Torquay in Devon, I design and make a range of quirky sculptures of harbours, boats, fish and much more. Hand built using earthenware clay no two are exactly the same, so you can be sure of owning a truly unique piece of art. Each harbour takes several hours to make, paint and fire they are then finished with wooden masts, wire rigging and tiny colourful flags. Driftwood is also used as a base for some of the little boats, sailing on a sea of ceramic shells a colourful hand painted sail and tiny fish hanging on twine as if they have just been caught. I am always happy to take commissions or to personalise a special piece for you.

ArtShades

category: Paper   Textiles & Stitch - Interiors

region: Midlands

I’ve been making artisan lampshades from appliquéd papers since 1999. Inspired by the play of light and depth of colour in stained glass windows, I started using the technique of reverse appliqué (most familiar to quilt makers) to recreate the effect in colourful plant-fibre papers. Since then my range has grown to include hand printed designs as well as shades made using reclaimed vintage Ordnance Survey maps.

I specialise in half-shades for table lamps and wall lights, but also make full drum shades for table lamps, ceiling pendants and floor lamps. My shades can be custom-made to order in colours and designs to suit you, and I’m known for my personal service and attention to detail.

region: North East

My work is inspired by the architecture of Indian monuments and palaces. The geometry used in the formation of the structural arches of these monuments, the intricate details of the ceilings, and the decorative panels in the windows and screens, all form a rich heritage for my work. The jewellery has the essence of the […]

Ashley James Design

category: 3D Sculptural Work   Ceramics

region: South East

I am a ceramic artist living and working in Hampshire.

My work is influenced by an interest in the natural world; a love of farm life and the surrounding countryside. I strive to capture something quirky and unique in each piece I create and I hope my work captures my personality. It’s important to me that each piece tells its own narrative. Working in stoneware I use natural oxides, underglaze stains and polymers on the clay surface, occasionally embellished with galvanised steel wire for a contemporary feel. My ceramic work is priced from £60-£500.

My work has been shown at Southampton Art Gallery, St Barbe Museum & Art Gallery, Mottisfont, (National Trust), Sherfield School and at The Grange, Northington (English Heritage).

Avril Cairncross Ceramics

category: Ceramics

region: North West

I work in naked raku. The pots, thrown from a porcelain/T material mix are burnished and then coated with a resist slip before being glazed. Once they are fired and put into a sawdust reduction the glaze starts to craze and then the pots are cooled quickly so that the glaze falls off like eggshell, leaving a silky white surface with smokey grey crackle marks and spots. I love the random effects.

Bask Bindery is noted for its fresh approach to the age-old profession, the bindery is set to shake up the industry with its handbound journals uniquely fused with striking collages designed to be covetable by the beholder and beyond. I spent many years formally studying and exploring ceramics, but the moment I started experimenting with wool, I was hooked. It’s a lovely natural material to work with and I’m particularly drawn to its textural and sculptural qualities. Working from my North Devon studio I mainly use a process called needle felting (also known as […]

betty mo

category: Textiles & Stitch - Interiors

region: North West

Textiles, colour and pattern are my passions. I design and make a range of cushions and home accessories inspired by a childhood spent rock pooling, collecting shells on the sandy beaches of West Wales, walking through enchanted woods of bluebells and growing flowers and veg in the garden alongside my parents. As such, nature in its infinite variety features heavily in my work.

Over the years I’ve amassed a fine collection of buttons, ribbons and vintage fabrics that have found a home in my craftwork alongside liberty prints and more recent fabric finds. I use various techniques including appliqué, machine and hand embroidery to conjure up magic and character in my colourful creations.

My work is inspired by stories, poems, over-hearings and memories. Re-using materials, especially textiles, is an integral part of my work. I like to feel that they have ‘lived a little’ with their own story to tell showing signs of ageing and how they have been treated or, perhaps, mistreated. Every discarded object is a […]

Bev Milward

category: Ceramics

region: South West

Hand built porcelain landscapes and figures influenced by the environment, personal events and the nature of porcelain itself. Shapes and forms of interest found in miniature landscapes, architecture, the circus and 17th Century British pottery are reinterpreted and combined in the clay to form a unique and distinctive style.

Imagery and themes are reworked and revisited but no piece is repeated. The last piece informs the next and has evolved as a continuous visual diary now spanning 11 years. Each element or symbol has a personal history or a meaning and my maker’s mark, in the shape of a key, can be found somewhere on each piece. The work is entirely hand built from porcelain, decorated with on glaze enamels, slips, lustres and more recently rare vintage lithographs.
