Jill Iliffe

category: Glass

region: South East

I work in fused glass, creating pieces that can be used in the home.  I am inspired by mid-century design and aspire to create pieces that have a clean look, are useful and good to look at. My distinctive ranges – Vintage, Fire and Ice, Scandinavian and Colour and Form – are designed and kiln fired with hand cut glass by me in my studio. Because of the process, each item in a range remains individual. My background is Fine Art and I have an MA in Drawing from the University of the Arts London, which has helped with my aesthetic and precision.

I design and produce a series of contemporary ceramic objects that explore functionality. Blurring the boundaries between the usable and the purely decorative, with a minimal aesthetic and considered and refined colour palette. Fascinated by process, I explore the technique of layered slipcasting, to create unique pieces and both individual pieces and collections of curated […]

I am a trained silversmith who works mainly with silver but I have recently incorporated seaglass found on Dorset beaches into many of my pieces.
I love texture and my work involves reticulation and hammering. I’m put off by mass produced jewellery and therefore like to create one off pieces, while keeping my work affordable.

Jo Clarke Designs

category: Basketry

region: South East

I create textile basketry kits and original pieces using natural renewable materials. My designs involve using traditional basketry techniques with inspiration coming from the materials, the natural world and historical references. The baskets reflect the materiality of the fibres used being mostly jute, sisal, Manila hemp, flax and cotton. Hand weaving, twining, coiling and binding are the methods I use. I studied MA Textile Design at Norwich University of the Arts which reinforced my interest in natural renewable sustainable materials and also made me want to pass my knowledge on to other crafters. I offer workshops in my studio at DesignerMakers21 in Diss, Norfolk which go hand in hand with my basket design kits. I am a licentiate member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and a member of the Norfolk Contemporary Craft Society.

Jo Hill Textiles

category: Textiles & Stitch - Interiors

region: Midlands   North West

I am a textile artist and designer based in the Staffordshire countryside, making textile wall hangings, cushions, lampshades, chairs, and many other original fabric creations. I use sumptuous fabrics and intricate stitching to create contemporary textile treats for your home, business or as a gift.

Sewing is my absolute passion, and having won several design awards at University and gone on to sell my woven creations to Habitat, amongst others, I have spent the last few years developing the Jo Hill range of embroidered designs. My textile designs are inspired by the beautiful British countryside, in particular its diverse range of wildlife that is so often hiding in amongst the grasses and the trees.

I am proud to say that all of my original textiles are handmade by me in Great Britain with love, joy and lots of passion!

Born in Chiswick and based in rural Staffordshire, Jo comes from a family of ‘Ponds’ who appear to have a genetic necessity for hoarding. Collecting unconventional and often unwanted items, Jo enjoys exploring symbolic references of form, material and technique, repurposing her finds, to create unique one-off items, often assembled with the use of a […]

Joanna Caskie

category: Paper

region: Scotland

I am a mixed media artist mainly working with paper to create handmade books, collage and occasionally sculpture. I use a variety of papers, sometimes new and sometimes with a history and enjoy exploring the qualities of my materials to create unique objects. Some of these pieces are made of paper alone and some are given details and dimension with threads, paints and inks. I am drawn to working with paper because of its ability to appear fragile yet be incredibly strong and because of its amazing textural qualities. Much of my work is inspired by the natural shapes and forms I see in my rural, coastal landscape.

John Fishenden

category: Furniture & Wood

region: Midlands

John Fishenden works exclusively in wood, choosing native hardwoods to make his domestic and commemorative wares.
Craftsmanship takes precedence over technology in his approach to making pieces. Included in this approach is a belief that nothing should be wasted, whether sawdust (which is composted) or off-cuts of wood, which fuel a wood-burning stove. John’s inspiration comes partly from his love of traditional slipware pottery, which used simple designs and often added messages or a design in trailed clay slip. He is also inspired to work with the grain and pattern of the timber he finds. He learnt the art of woodturning alongside artist and toymaker Robin Dale, when living in North Lancashire. John also worked as a sign-maker in his youth and consequently has a real eye for the use of lettering.
John now lives and works in rural Herefordshire, in the beautiful Golden Valley.
