Emily Scott – Hillside Weaver

category: Textiles & Stitch - Interiors

region: Wales

I trained in Textile design at Derby college of art in the mid 70’s, specializing in weave and knit.I weave rugs, throws, cushions, scarves, heavy and fine work on my 8 shaft Harris loom.

My inspiration comes from the material I have to work with and the job it has to do.  I am enjoying the colours and forms of the Bauhaus movement at the moment. I use alpaca, wool, cotton, recycled rags, in fact anything if it is right for the project.  I dye my yarn where necessary using natural, chemical and indigo dyes.

Combining textiles with precious metals, I explore the idea of making a two-dimensional fabric into a three-dimensional form through weaving, folding and knotting. Clean structured shapes are amplified and embellished with texture and oxidisation to give each handcrafted piece a unique and contemporary look and feel. Fable-London

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: London

Fable-London create exquisite, hand-crafted jewellery that brings together modern technology and traditional techniques. Each piece is carved out of a block of Corian using CNC machining, then it is passed to our artists for finishing by hand, with silver detailing and colour added. This process makes every item that we make unique. We love the simplicity of form and crisp clean lines. We hope you do too.

I am self taught and create multiple plate Linocuts using a traditional letterpress at the Gloucestershire Printmaking Co-operative where I am a member.
I draw my inspiration for my work mainly from British flora and fauna. The style of work is strong and graphic and often references the Arts and Crafts movement which has rubbed off on me after living in the Cotswolds for a decade where the movement is in evidence all around.
