Eleanor Patton Jewellery

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: Scotland

Eleanor Kerr-Patton is changing how we discuss mental illness through introspective kintsugi jewellery, created using ethically sourced materials. Recycled sterling silver encases shattered mirror, bonded by seams of golden dust. Signs of past damage become something to be admired and celebrated. In the tradition of Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing pottery with lacquer and gold dust, she endeavours to show the beauty of damaged things. The philosophy of Kintsugi – knowing that something is more beautiful for having been broken – treats damage and repair as part of the history of the object, rather than something to disguise. Each piece of jewellery is an outwardly visible representation of a journey often invisible to others.

I am a felt maker, creating sculptural clothing and accessories. Inspired by the colours and textures in the nature that surrounds me, I use the Nuno wet felting technique to fuse merino wool and natural plant fibres onto cotton muslin and other natural fabrics to create unique textiles. I love to embellish and sew on the felt to create texture.
Inspired by a background in fine art printing and painting and then travelling the world, I discovered felt making in Switzerland and apprenticed with artist Sophie Prieur making felt for couture fashion. I started making felted wall hangings in 1999 and eventually moved onto the Elfn range of seamless clothing and accessories. I have exhibited in Switzerland and London and now work from my studio in the Somerset countryside, ever inspired by the beauty in English nature.

Elizabeth Designs

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: South East

I take a fresh approach to the design and making of silver jewellery, using inspirations such as flight in nature. I aim to design pieces that embody different perspectives, so each piece can be worn in several different ways. I have built a collection of high quality and detailed work over a number of years – my main technique is piercing, and I have used lace to emboss silver, making each piece original.

I’ve been making sculptural ceramic vessels and handmade tiles for over fifteen years and work in my studio at home overlooking the garden in the beautiful Peak District National Park. When making I design with clay, allowing the material to partly dictate the direction the piece takes rather than staring blankly at an empty page […]
