I handbuild ceramic stylised birds in the form of either a small vessel or, for larger birds, a jug. I use stoneware clay and decorate with underglaze colours, slip and glazes. My inspiration comes from the birds of the moors, coast and countryside of North Yorkshire and in my garden.

Little Mill House

category: Mixed Media and Recycled   Textiles & Stitch - Interiors

region: Yorkshire

I upcycle vintage materials such as tea towels, scarves and glasses into beautiful cushions and gifts. The idea for Little Mill House came from my obsession with hunting vintage items and needing a creative way to free them from storage. It then became an excuse to continue hunting lovely items and share them with other people. I was taught by my auntie to sew as I was growing up and have had professional tuition by a private tutor to perfect my techniques. Everything is made at home by myself and quality is a priority.

Little Ram Studio

category: Printmaking

region: Yorkshire

Little Ram Studio is Gary and Heather Ramskill – both artists & printmakers, we produce original prints from our home studio in a quiet North Yorkshire village.
Specialising in linocut printing, we use the surrounding countryside and the many wildlife visitors to our garden as inspiration for our art. Each one lovingly made by hand, from the hand cutting of the lino plate to the mixing of the inks and the pressing of the paper on a hand press.
Gary’s style and technique, whether using a single or multiple colour plates, is to capture the finest detail, not in the photographic sense but one step removed from the identical representation, as if through a muted lens.
Heather’s print style takes inspiration from all things natural, especially favourite landscapes and the soft shapes of flowers. She tries to capture the strokes of the water colourist in her printmaking.

Metamorphosis Hand-Painted Furniture

category: Furniture & Wood   Mixed Media and Recycled

region: Yorkshire

At Metamorphosis we source items of beautiful, previously owned old furniture and bring them back to life. We rescue, restore or repair and then revitalise them. During the process, their personalities begin to shine through. They start to acquire names. We get a feel for their potential. Some of them like to keep their original purpose, and others like to try their hand at something else. All undergo some form of metamorphosis, and become beautiful, unique individuals. We also revamp other pre-owned things; sometimes these are restored to their former purpose, and sometimes they take on a new artistic twist.

Mouse in the House

category: 3D Sculptural Work   Mixed Media and Recycled

region: Yorkshire

I come from a Theatre Design background and apply my scale-model techniques to create small mixed-media playful sculptures of mice, made entirely from salvaged and recycled materials. I make numerous commissions and ‘one-off’ pieces, which are either freestanding, housed in a driftwood box, or positioned under a glass dome. The sculptures are highly detailed, with every aspect considered to a high standard, these can be personalised to meet a client’s specifications.
Prices vary, depending on the detail and complexity of the piece; they range from £15-£65. My clients often commission pieces for their own home, or as gifts for special occasions. The colours, materials and detailing frequently appeal to children as much as to adults.
I’ve always had a fascination with stories and histories, and collect profusely. I work with fragments of fabric, paper, wood and metal, with which I aim to fire up the imagination and encourage audiences to engage playfully with my work.

Penny Hunt, velvet & bracken

category: Ceramics

region: Yorkshire

I completed a fine art degree and MA at Manchester Metropolitan University over twenty years ago and have been teaching art while painting and making since then. I recently left teaching and moved to the Yorkshire Dales, where I am surrounded by a landscape that constantly inspires me. The changing light on fells and moorland catches my painter’s eyes and I find myself increasingly fascinated by the people and animals that inhabit and visit the area, the climbers, fell runners and cyclists who make use of the land. All ceramics are hand built and are glazed and fired multiple times to give the layered more painterly effect.
