category: Stone

region: Wales

Originally with a background in decorating my interest in interiors and design has developed rapidly in recent years. In particular I wanted to see how stone could be used to make discrete or statement features, wall pieces, free standing objects and even items for personal adornment.
My design ideas come from geological structures, a minimalist design ethos and unplanned inspiration. I also want to bring to eye level the beauty and textures inherent in Welsh slate, a material so often used for flooring etc. The ability to cleave or split slate expanded the versatility of this sexy lithified mudstone. Other working methods revolve around wet cutting and finishing.
I also have a new range of elegant and beautiful slate jewelry in the form of pendants which are suitable for both sexes.

Moriath Glass

category: Glass

region: Wales

I work with various warm glass techniques, layering the glass with powders and paint, and often incorporating leaves and printed or stencilled designs. Layers of glass replicate the layers and strata of the land – hills, skies, beaches, rivers and seas.
Living and working on a smallholding in west Wales I am surrounded by the most wonderful inspiration. I step out of the studio to gather hawthorn, oak and ivy leaves to encase in glass; I look up and spot a pair of ravens skyfalling in dazzling sunlight; I look down and gaze through the reflective surface of the pond to the life teeming in the layers beneath.
Prices range from £3.50 to £250. Commissions accepted.

category: Furniture & Wood

region: Wales

I am primarily a wood turner based in South Wales. I am self taught and take my inspiration from anywhere from the piece of wood that I’m using to architecture, or from other pieces of furniture that I see. At the moment I am concentrating on making table and floor lamps as I really love making something that is both functional and looks amazing.  I use local hardwoods from the very local area or at worst within about an 80 mile radius. I like to be able to support my local wood store as well as keeping the risks of importing timber at bay.

I have been a full time potter for nearly 30 years, mainly a repetition thrower, firing with gas, but in 2019 I fulfilled a long-held ambition and built a large wood-fired kiln. Now I feel I am at the beginning of a new and exciting journey.

I throw all my pots on the potters’ wheel. While they are all about function and, importantly, the enjoyment and ritual of use, I see each pot as an individual with its own idiosyncrasies to be embraced and admired.

I use local clay, stone dust and wood ash to decorate and glaze the pots, and I’m coppicing and storing the Willow growing all around my pottery for fuel to fire the kiln. Increasingly my pots are taking on the tones and hues of my surroundings, set in the rural calm of the Brecon Beacons National Park. My work is inextricably linked to where it is born.

No two pots are the same and all pieces shown here are unique. They are all in stock and available for immediate dispatch. If you are interested in other similar pots, or would like to order groups of bowls, mugs or plates, or place a special commission, please do get in touch.

The joy of carving is that it is difficult. You can’t stick a piece back on and you are always constricted by the size of the block. This calls for ingenuity and a fluidity of expression that does not exist for me in other materials. I use predominantly lime stones like Bath stone because I like the warm colours and Serpentine because you can polish it. The carvings are sometimes cast into bronze or iron resin to make limited editions I do public and  bespoke commissions, show in galleries and have many pieces on Facebook.

Rachel Codd

category: Ceramics   Jewellery and Silverware

region: Wales

Rachel Codd is inspired by classical poems and fairy tales, creating tactile and wearable porcelain jewellery with a deeper meaning and story to each and every piece.
Passionate about drawing a little bit of fantasy from our classical inspirations and into each piece through the ornate detail and unusual nature of this practice.
Working with porcelain to create a rich palette whilst still obtaining vivid detail. Clear glazed for tactile functional pieces, and finished with a dash of gold lustre; that holds a subtle hint of more traditional jewellery within a fresh creative process.
Our jewellery is the result of a desire to dedicatedly hand-made pieces that form a tactile narrative, adding a little more beauty into the world and inviting us to not just view it but also wear it and become a part of it.

Ruth Packham

category: Textiles & Stitch - Interiors

region: Wales

My background is as a Fine Artist, graduating from what was Newcastle Polytechnic in 1992. Since 1994 I have been living in the wilds of West Wales where I have had 2 children. I have always loved fabric and when my daughter was tiny, 1995 I took a screen printing class at my local Arts Centre. I have been printing since then, inspired by the patterns of nature, creating bold colourful images. Five years ago I made my first piece of felt and am now in awe of wool and its potential. Three years ago I made my first needle felt creature and am addicted! Birds are a current theme.
I also machine applique and make one off sewn items.

sarah watts jewellery

category: Glass   Jewellery and Silverware

region: Wales

I am a self-taught designer-maker creating richly detailed and decorative jewellery using glass, sterling silver, wire and linen in my home studio in Wales.
I use the ancient Lampwork technique to make detailed opaque glass beads, crafting each bead by hand from molten glass in a hot flame. Each bead begins with a vision of the shape and decorative style I am aiming for. However, the detailed choices of colour and pattern are in response to the dynamic nature of the process of glass reacting with flame. I employ traditional silversmithing techniques and steel wire bound with waxed linen cord to create finished pieces.
My work is influenced by my love of colour, decoration and texture. My inspirations range from illustrated Medieval manuscripts and Ottoman empire ceramics to 1950’s fabric design and traditional Indian textiles. I create richly coloured decorative jewellery which acknowledges these historical influences.
