category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: South West

I use traditional goldsmithing methods to handcraft delicate fine jewellery, and have been a practising metalsmith for over 6 years. I favour a timelessly organic, feminine, modern romantic aesthetic, and draw inspiration from the metals and gemstones I work with as well as earthy textures and soft colour palettes. Much of my work is hammer textured and features unusual rose cut precious gemstones.

My work is made to order from eco-friendly materials and meticulously sourced gemstones and provides an ethical alternative to mass produced fine jewellery.

I am a ceramicist based in Plymouth, Devon with a studio space in Flameworks Creative Art Facility. I have a foundation degree from Rugby Art College, Fine Product BA Cons from Coventry University and Entrepreneurship in Creative Practices MA from Plymouth College of Art.

My work ranges from functional tableware to sculptural pieces and is handbuilt, slip cast or press moulded. I am particularly interested in surface and texture. I work with porcelain and paperclay,   which I make myself, this enables me to recycle 100% of unused clay and create texture using a variety of materials including polystyrene, fabric and natural materials.

My pieces are finished with lustre, on-glazes, oxides and fired to stoneware temperature or smoke fired. My smoke fired tableware is sealed with Liquid Quartz and is food, dishwasher and microwave safe.

‘Drawing inspiration from themes of collecting memories I create playful jewellery which might explore a fleeting moment, a chance encounter or a material souvenir charged with meaning. Referencing shape, form, colour and pattern to realise each piece of jewellery I hope to create something which has both familiar and yet foreign associations, perhaps triggering a […]

A few are possible to recreate, although will never be identical, and […]

I bought my first sheep six years ago, absolutely determined to work with their wool to produce contemporary, artisan products with real provenance. My beautiful textiles products for the home can be traced from design, through production and right back to my flock of sheep that graze the Cotswolds countryside. My limited edition collection includes handwoven blankets, knitted accessories and sheepskin rugs. Across the entire range I aim to bring together woollen accessories for the home that offer aesthetic pleasure and a sense of warmth and cosiness. Most importantly, I want to connect my customers with provenance, with rural skills and with the feeling that they own something truly handcrafted, and evocative of our working countryside and great, British wool.

I find weaving to be an endlessly fascinating craft – watching how the different colours and yarns interact in the warp and weft, or playing with the structure of the cloth to create a new texture or pattern is something I will never tire of.
My aim is to create hand woven textiles that are equally attractive to the hand as to the eye. Textiles are a part of our everyday lives from a christening shawl, a comforting blanket to an elegant shawl, so it is important to enjoy them.

My name is Lucy and I am a trained silversmith and jeweller based in Lyme Regis, Dorset. Since graduating from University in 2005, I have set up my own workshop and small business at home, making and selling my work.

My main source of inspiration comes from the beach and the sea. I like to spend time wandering around the beach collecting found objects and taking photos to inform my work. I have a particular fascination with surface textures found in this environment.

I generally work in silver (sterling, 925), however more recently I have started taking commissions in gold. All work is handmade by myself from scratch and each piece has had many hours hard work, love and care gone into its creation!

We are two sisters with a shared love of sewing and making things that goes right back to our childhood. We are inspired by our love of recycling, junk shop hunting and our passion for sewing. We love the idea that we are making something beautiful from discarded materials. We create cushions, soft toys and accessories to our own original design. We like to think that our work is traditional with a quirky, modern edge to it. Apart from an A level in Art we are entirely self taught but are carrying on a strong family tradition of making. Our unique ‘signature’ is the use of recycled woolen blankets which we then embroider onto.We think our work is fun; it makes people smile. Most of our products are limited editions mostly due to the recycled material of the materials used.

I am based in Cornwall and make colourful contemporary blown glass including solid glass cupcakes and hanging vases.

My ideas are drawn from plants and flowers and the actual process of manipulating hot glass. It is a bewitching process that is constantly challenging.

I am always happy to work to commission, enjoying the process of working with a client.

My craft is painting birds of prey (my inspiration) on to feathers and small slices of tree branch. I use acrylic paints over a light layer of gesso, and a very light touch with a paintbrush. My feathers are presented either in a small ceramic vase made locally or in a specially made box frame. I display the wooden ovals on miniature easels. I have a Fine Art Degree and an MA in Printmaking but I currently enjoy painting wildlife using a variety of media. I help at a falconry centre where my inspiration and fascination with feathers comes from to create my art.

The influence of the coastal environment of West Wales, my childhood landscape, and the natural beauty of Dorset, where I now live, permeate the sculptural ceramics that I produce.
A background in precision engineering has trained me to work with a meticulous eye for tight tolerances, refined lines and defined angles.
My interests in nature and contemporary architecture have been incorporated to create pieces that contain the essence of natural forms in shapes that have clarity of line and beauty in simplicity.
All my work is handbuilt using slabs of stoneware clay and I construct each piece individually without the aid of moulds. The modelling and carving of the finer detail ensures each piece is unique. Following bisque firing to 1000°C, I apply my own glazes and finally fire to 1250°C.
I gained my BA Ceramics degree at West Wales School of the Arts in 2007.

Following training at art colleges in St Albans, Stoke-on-Trent and London I received a BA (Hons) in 1980, and have spent the last 38 years teaching and making ceramics in Ireland, Canada and the UK.

Now based in Devon with a workshop on the Dartington Estate, I use local ‘wild’ clay that I dig and prepare myself to make pots inspired by the Devon landscape. I use a combination of thrown, pinch, coil and slab techniques to give each pot a unique appearance and character as the different clays create serendipitous patterns on the surface of the pot. Though glazed inside, the tactile un-glazed outer surface of the pot offers the hand a deeper connection with the clay, and the land itself. Made by hand, my pots are meant to be held and touched as much as looked at. Prices start at £30 for small pots.

Maureen Carr Knitwear

I have been designing and creating hand-loomed knitwear for many years. My experience has been gained in fashion houses in both London and abroad. The business is run on the value of high quality products and the knitwear collection is, therefore, made using the finest yarns.
I love to create garments which “move” when worn and try to produce fluid, elegant pieces which are also versatile and can be worn for a range of occasions. As an experienced knitwear designer, I am able to create made-to-measure garments with just three measurements. My broad-based clientele regularly return for more bespoke knitwear due to the high quality products and made-to-measure fit.

Melanie Torrance Textiles

category: Fashion Accessories

region: South West

I am a self-taught textile artist working with natural dyes and prints taken directly from leaves and other plant materials (ecoprinting). I started making scarves, shawls and other accessories three years ago. I work with natural fibres, such as silk and wool and particularly love using silk crepe de chine as the soft pearlescent surface of the silk combines beautifully with natural dyes.

My inspiration comes from nature and the changing seasons. I gather a lot of my materials from long woodland walks and hedgerow foraging. Dyes are also made using avocado skins, walnut husks, pomegranate skins, flowers and local plants. My scarves are dyed by bundling lengths of fabric with plant materials, which are then steamed or immersed in a dye vat. After curing and rinsing, I finish the scarves with hand-rolled or frayed hems. Each piece is unique and captures a moment in time and place.
