Orchid Stained Glass

category: Glass

region: South East

I use traditional copper foil and lead techniques to create my lamps, panels, terrariums, tableware and jewellery. The copper foil technique I employ is the same as used by the Tiffany Studios in the late 19th century. However, I use it to create unique designs that fit any interior. It is a labour-intensive and slow process but the results make it worthwhile and I like the fact that I am keeping a little-known skill alive and combining art and artisan. I am inspired mainly by the style and ethos of the designers of the Arts & Crafts Movement and love the Art Deco and Art Nouveau periods particularly.

Penny Spooner Ceramics

category: Ceramics

region: South East

Working in porcelain from my studio in Hampshire I produce pieces both on the wheel and with hand building techniques. My current wheel-thrown work is functional tableware suitable for everyday use, decorated inside with my speckled glazes and finished outside with a hand drawn daisy chain motif.

My hand built work, including vases & tea lights, is more decorative with a variety of finishes – printing of pattern & words, simple pencil drawing & slip decoration.

Much of my work is inspired by a childhood punctuated with visits for ‘Tea’ with my Grandmother, everything looking as good as it tasted and always beautifully presented. I originally learnt my craft at evening classes in my local college, moved on to studying a couple of days a week with my tutor, finally moving in to my own studio during 2008.

Rohanna Jewellery

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: South East

Rohanna Jewellery was created in 2003 by me, Gill Connolly when my oldest daughter had her ears pierced and kept coming home having spent a ridiculous amount of money on earrings, I fatefully said I am sure we can make earrings like these! A year later I set up Rohanna and haven’t stopped since.

I have always been inspired by colour and find putting different colours, shapes and textures together to produce unique pieces extremely exciting. I use all the best quality ‘ingredients’ and spend a lot of time researching new beads from different cultures, wherever possible I use handmade artisan beads and support Fairtrade suppliers.

Lastly and most importantly, I set all my prices at an affordable level. I don’t like to see you paying too much and that way you will come back for more.

After completing a Masters in Textile Design, with my love of upcycling and repurposing I have developed a range of jewellery and accessories made primarily from offcuts and recycled materials of wood and leather. My designs are mainly influenced by geometric shapes and patterns but many pieces are dictated by the nature of the shape, size or form of the materials available. Having nearly a decade of teaching experience behind me, I have built up an extensive range of skills and I am very lucky to now have the luxury of time and space to make my own products and to experiment with different techniques and styles.

Since graduating in 1972 I have spent my working life teaching and making ceramics. I make a range of handbuilt work inspired by my love of nature and the flora and fauna of the North Kent Marshes where I live.

I use the structures and textures found in natural forms juxtaposed with textures from found objects to produce an unusual range of work which is both decorative and functional. I use fine porcelain clays to make large bowls, vases, mugs, brooches and much more, all complementing one another.

Sadie Dorchester

category: Furniture & Wood

region: South East

I was inspired to make my furniture range when I was unable to find sustainable, British made, contemporary storage solutions for my own home. After gaining the AMUSF craft qualification I set about designing an eco friendly, bespoke range of furniture, uniquely inspired by the modernist art movement.

Upholstered inside and out using a high quality recycled Italian wool from Linwood, the range offers beautiful and original furniture that compliments any interior. All of the Sadie Dorchester designs are offered as adaptable made to measure templates, available in over 55 colour combinations with a choice of feet.

The range has been made with sustainability in mind from the inside out. No plywood or foam is used. Only FSC certified solid pine and eco friendly components. The lids are made as a frame using mortis and tenon joints for strength and then webbed for comfort and to be as lightweight as possible. There are 10 designs in the range and growing. Each piece is made to order with prices starting from £290 for a small footstool to £1300 for a large blanket box which will fit at the end of a king size bed.

Sally Reilly

category: Ceramics

region: South East

My work is a celebration of the everyday experience of eating and drinking, and of private and shared moments. My love of cooking and good food is central to my work. I design and throw ranges of tableware for everyday use, small collections of pots for more ceremonial moments and individual pieces.

I was born in Ireland but trained in Paris in an Anglo/Japanese tradition. This early influence is evident in my work but I am also interested in the pure shapes of Modernism. Alongside my work in series I continue to experiment with form and technique, sometimes adding non-ceramic elements. Most pieces are high fired stoneware with classic oriental glazes but I also use brightly coloured slips on earthenware and stoneware under a transparent glaze.

I design and make jewellery, using precious metals to challenge perceived perceptions about their preciousness and perfection. I also work in larger form with metal, making sculptural vessels that explore the concept of memory. My inspirations are the imagined stories that old and broken jewellery tell me. I explore and corrupt perceived and accepted ways of making to expose the fragility of the metals through heat and etching.

All Jewellery is handmade by me in my studio in Cambridgeshire, I love working with Silver and Gold, using a wide variety of techniques such as wax carving, casting forging, piecing, repousse, stone setting, sheet fabrication to produce high quality work. If the work is not in stock, please allow 3-5 weeks turnaround. This allows for ordering, making, casting and hallmarking.
