My work has evolved from a background of engineering and boat building/refurbishment, plus a natural ability and love of making things by hand in wood.
I design and make items of furniture that have complementary features of aesthetic and structure, and that ultimately let the natural beauty of the wood remain the main focus of each piece. My designs often blend a contemporary modern look with a somewhat retro tinge, with strong influences from my boat building days in the use of laminated curves and the use of contrasting wood types to induce a colour variation into the aesthetic.
I use no machinery in the construction at all and each piece is finely finished by hand to really let the wood and natural features stand out.

I make intricate, delicate jewellery in silver and gold from necklaces and bracelets to earrings, cufflinks and rings. I also make tiny silver books with messages inside, little boxes to hide your secrets in, and small decorative bowls.
I create textures and forms in the metal using a technique called chasing. I am fascinated by the way the lines I chase onto one side of the metal can be altered and transformed by working from the back to form emerging three dimensional shapes.
I am influenced by the structure and texture of natural forms, such as shells, seed pods, leaves and rippled sand, and I like my jewellery to incorporate sound and movement.

My work is inspired by the architecture of Indian monuments and palaces. The geometry used in the formation of the structural arches of these monuments, the intricate details of the ceilings, and the decorative panels in the windows and screens, all form a rich heritage for my work. The jewellery has the essence of the […]

With a First BA (Hons) in Textile Design, I have been a contemporary stitcher for 30 years, mainly using my craft for the past 25 years to support vulnerable pupils as a Behaviour Consultant and trainer within Educational Settings. Lockdown gave me the space and permission to become a full time contemporary stitcher and complete two projects called “Circles’ and ‘Blossom’. Drawing nature is the starting point for all my embroideries using mixed media and a mark making kit which includes a toothbrush, a sharpened chop stick and numerous twigs. I am right handed but draw with my left: this gives me a sense of freedom and can create some really interesting shapes. All embroideries are developed from my drawings then formed using seeding, couching, running and occasionally blanket stitch into Wallhangings. Stitch for me is a therapy, there is a calmness that comes with the rhythm and routine of a needle, thread and fabric. I apply the therapeutic practice of Slow Stitching throughout my work as well as giving priority to research and the creative process. Presently I am inspired by the concept of Animism which is a belief that all beings, animals, plants, land and waters possess a distinct spiritual essence.

I make copper and enamelled copper pieces such as wall hangings, bowls, tealight holders and jewellery. I am mostly self-taught, starting from an enamelling taster course, where I fell in love with enamelling and wanted to learn more, which then inspired me to learn copper-working too. For most items I make, I start with sheet copper which I cut and shape. Some pieces I leave as copper, possibly with some patina, but others I then enamel using vitreous enamel. I love seeing how each piece evolves, starting from a simple concept, but then guided by the materials themselves as they react to the processes.

My work is made in silver, a material that I love to use. It can be formed, polished or patterned in so many ways and complements the colours and textures next to it.
I make silver jewellery in its polished state or oxidised to create a deeply luscious dark finish and often combined with pearls. In addition to jewellery I also make silver Christmas decorations and tableware.

My thrown stoneware pots are reduction fired in a gas kiln. Form and function are integral to the work and my objective is to make pots to be used, cherished and cooked in and to enhance the presentation of food.
The ripples of water as it eddies and swirls around objects fascinate me as do marks on pebbles, lichen and stonemason’s chisel marks on Yorkshire barns. These are represented by imprints and sgraffitto and with the three dot ‘Cintamani’ motif are on-going inspirations.

My degree in jewellery and silversmithing at Loughborough College of Art and Design in 1977 equipped me to pursue a career as a designer maker of jewellery. I aim to design jewellery with originality and a distinctive character. The soft ripple texture surface silver is a tactile feature of many pieces.
I use jewellery hand working techniques with materials such as silver, gold, gold leaf, ebony and textile. My work is exhibited in the UK at shows such as ‘Origin’ London, ‘Art in Action’ Oxfordshire and Stroud International Textiles Festival. International exhibitions have featured my jewellery in Boston, USA; South Korea; Japan; Germany; Spain; Poland and Slovakia. I have a piece of jewellery in mima (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art) International Jewellery Collection. Work is also bought by UK and overseas private collectors.

I make Sterling silver jewellery by hand in my home studio in Gateshead. I’m hugely inspired by nature, in particular leaves, and am about to launch a new collection, inspired by waterlilies and lily pads. I use predominantly folding, scoring and forming techniques to realise my designs, and am looking forward to incorporating textural elements using a recently procured rolling mill.
Having studied jewellery while at university, I have remained immersed in craft and design and broadened my perspectives through Jewellery Sales and more recently as an Assistant Designer in an artist studio.

Kay Carter Studio was established in 2020 and we are based on the North East Coast, in the UK. Whilst working as a production artist, I found my love for Jesmonite, an eco friendly & lightweight alternative to other cast materials like concrete and plaster. Known as the ultimate chameleon material, Jesmonite is durable, flame & impact resistant with no harmful solvents.
We produce a wide range of homewares in eye catching and colourful terrazzo styles and marbled designs. Specialising in colour customisation, we give you the opportunity to create bespoke, individual items for your space. All of our homewares are made entirely by hand, producing truly one of a kind pieces every time. With a love for all things gold, you will find this common feature throughout my work.

Laconic is a sustainable brand by jewellery designer, Lindsay Forbes. Crafted by hand in small batches using traditional Goldsmithing techniques and responsibly sourced materials.
My design inspirations range through travelling; experiencing culture and history, my Scottish heritage; folklore influenced by natural landscape and exploring design boundaries. I have an appreciation for minimal and sculptural design as well as consideration for the history and purpose of jewellery.
I use traditional Goldsmithing techniques, including lost-wax casting and forging. Cast elements are combined with hand-built details fabricated by cutting sheet metal, forging wire and soldering.
Laconic was born from my desire to do something I wholeheartedly believed in and was passionate about. It’s been influenced by my experiences and I continue to learn and be inspired by what’s possible. Years spent at art school taught me the design process, drawing and designing to a brief and knowledge of how materials work together to craft them into existence, building upon this by working in the industry learning and honing my skills. I hope that when you see and wear a piece of Laconic jewellery you can appreciate the attention to detail within each element, which has been designed with sustainability and responsibility in mind.

Based in Whitley Bay on the North East coastline, I work in textiles and mixed media, exploring an eclectic mix of vintage textiles, recycled clothing, paint, ephemera and haberdashery, hand and machine embroidery to create original art, prints, handcrafted fashion accessories and cards.
I am fascinated by texture and the ephemeral changes to light, texture and colour by the elements on our sea and landscapes. I find inspiration in nature and all things vintage, collecting beachcombing and flea market treasures; intrigued by the nostalgic associations and emotive power of nature.

I make a variety of small artworks, homewares and wearable items from recycled, vintage and discarded materials.
I studied Jewellery & Silversmithing at Glasgow School of Art, where I became interested in working with mixed materials. I am most inspired by nature, fairytales and antiquity, creating one-off or limited quantity collages, which are box framed. Other works include textile jewellery, framed textile collages, and handmade cards. I have a studio/shop in Durham city.
I try to reuse as many old objects and materials as possible, sourcing from antique fairs, markets and thrift shops. Old cutlery boxes, vintage textiles, scrap papers, old books, broken jewellery and haberdashers’ materials are some the treasures I enjoy working with.
