Helena Rudkin Handmade Jewellery

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: Midlands

Helena Rudkin Handmade Jewellery is handcrafted by Helena who individually makes each piece in her Derbyshire Dales workshop.
Helena is intrigued by the narratives conveyed through the making process and draws inspiration from the construction, forming and manipulation of reticulated and fused silver. She has always needed to handle and play with her materials to understand their unique qualities and potential. She takes pleasure in the surprise of discovering a new form or texture or a new way of handling a material which changes its appearance and gives it a new identity.
Helena completed her fine art and education degree in Lincoln with first class honours and has used her artistic talents to educate the younger generation and develop her own creative journey.

My practice comes from a lifelong and deep need to make, draw, stitch and paint. I have worked specifically with vintage textiles, paper and haberdashery over the last 15 years, under the name of ‘Hen’s Teeth Art’ by Viv Sliwka. I work spontaneously, reacting to the inspiration provoked from folk art, dogs, hares, flowers and […]

Hollie Bailey Handwoven Textiles

category: Textiles & Stitch - Interiors   Textiles - Clothing

region: Midlands

Hollie Bailey is a dynamic hand weaver, producing beautifully crafted original pieces from her studio in Leicestershire.
Her fabric designs are a brilliant mix of traditionally executed construction using regular weave structures, combined with a more contemporary play on yarn properties, resulting in a unique range of woven textiles.

She is already an accredited designer whose fabrics are recognizable by their award winning unique style. This trademark style is recognisable by its movement and individuality. The creation of these pieces is achieved by expertly manipulating the shrinking nature of woollen yarns, alongside stable yarns, creating soft textures and undulating surface qualities, resulting in wonderfully unusual one off fabrics. Hollie indulges her unique and distinct style with sumptuous fibre choices of soft lambswool and lustrous silks, creating a well-balanced contrast of tactile textures and opulent designs. This, combined with her innate use of colour makes Hollie’s fabric desirable and divine.

Holly Suzanna Clifford

category: Jewellery and Silverware   Mixed Media and Recycled

region: Midlands

Holly describes herself as an Art Jeweller, crafting pieces of delicate and detailed wearable art, celebrating the curious attraction we have to plants, places and the natural world. Encompassing ideas from outside the realm of jewellery, her work draws from illustration, great painters such as Monet and Klimt, and also from old dioramic books. Working in a mixture of copper, silver & resins, Holly combines traditional skills with modern making techniques, to develop innovative and unusual collections of work. Drawing and painting are integral parts of her creative process, so much so that she has developed exciting ways to incorporate them into some of her final collections. Holly studied in the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter at the School of Jewellery, and produces beautiful works from her little garden workshop in the Cotswolds.

My work is inspired by natural textures and includes necklaces, pendants, cufflinks and earrings. I like to take items such as a petal, an acorn or a piece of coral and reproduce them in silver, often with contrasting textures, semi-precious stones or a gold highlight. I use traditional jewellery bench methods including electro-forming and casting. Prime Minister Theresa May wore a necklace I made for her on numerous occasions, including the last EU summit and for her resignation speech.

Kate Holdsworth Designs

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: Midlands

Kate’s jewellery collections are all inspired by textiles, whether it is knitting with yarn and fusing this with glass, or taking the inspiration from knitted patterns and textures and translating this into silver. Kate has several collections that are linked by a textile theme but each has a different feel and look. Kate Holdsworth is a jewellery designer maker. She has always been fascinated with the tactile textural qualities of knit. While studying at Bucks New University she became intrigued with the contrasting textures that could be achieved by juxtaposing knit with other materials. Kate went on to develop her love of contrasting materials on her MA at Nottingham Trent University where she produced an innovative process of fusing knit and glass together to create a unique composite textile. This led Kate to a year’s placement on the Design Space Programme developing new jewellery products. Since Design Space she has set up a collective with 10 other jewellery designer makers at Quarter Studios where she shares a workshop within the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter.

Katherine Fortnum Ceramics

category: Ceramics

region: Midlands

Hand built decorative ceramic sculptures inspired by structures in nature and particularly delicate natural forms; created through playful experimentation, pushing the limits of the fragility of the clay qualities within the forms through the ceramic process. Interesting qualities emerged as I began using smaller elements creating complex structures which were much more delicate. Each unique piece is extremely challenging and time consuming to make as every element is individually constructed.
Katherine graduated with BA (Hons) in Design Crafts, specialising in ceramics; from DeMontfort University 2013. Her workshop is based in Leicestershire, England.

You can find Katherine’s work at craft fairs throughout the year or via her website; where you will find a range of functional ceramics; including homewares, vases, bowls, coasters and more. Commissions Welcomed.

Katherine runs Ceramics workshops which are great for anyone looking to learn a new skill whilst creating something beautiful and unique. Whether there’s a specific item you wish to make or simply just to have a play and explore the world of clay, there’s a range of workshops available designed around you.

Inspired by the intrinsic beauty of the native and exotic woods I use (all ethically sourced), I produce tactile shapes which have function at the same time as transcending into unique pieces of art by using the wood’s natural organic traits, often enhanced with various finishing techniques. My products range in size from bottle stoppers and bud vases through to larger bowls, vases and platters, to large statement pieces, including many natural edge pieces.
