nbNg is the collection of fold-formed work made by designer-maker Nettie Birch of Ng Jewellery. Very different from her other jewellery and born from a desire to explore how metals move naturally rather than forcing shapes upon them, the pieces reflect organic forms and sweeping shapes. Using the maleability of copper and, more unusually the strength and lightness of aluminium, large pieces have been created which can be scaled for more everyday wear.

Possible Mirror

category: Furniture & Wood

region: London

Possible mirror specializes in making bespoke mirrors in a variety of natural woods and hand painted finishes. There is an ever-expanding range of designs to choose from and we welcome commissions. We make conventional mirrors, including oversize ones, but our unique feature are Box and Picture Mirrors.

Box Mirrors contain objects – shells, marbles, small glasses, eggs, dried flowers and so on. The interior walls of these mirrors also become part of the design using maps, fabric, collage, and even faux fur. Each mirror is different to some degree and some are unique – items sourced at the nearby Spitalfields Market will not be available again.

Picture mirrors incorporate images into the mirror design. All Picture Mirrors have anti UV glass to prevent deterioration. An attractive ‘antiqued’ mirror glass is also available and this can be used in any of the mirrors we make. Prices are from £50.00.

I create vibrant contemporary artworks for interior spaces. Constructed from layers of translucent textiles, which I have hand-dyed in a joyous range of colours, the artworks are adorned with hand-cut patterns and stitch. Colours are carefully selected for each piece to convey a mood and each handcrafted artwork is unique or part of a very small edition.

My love of colour and textiles is brought together with my interest in changes in light, new experiences and the rhythms and patterns of nature.  Current works are influenced by my local river in London, the shorelines and seas of Britain and travels in Latin America. I work from my studio in East London and also teach creative textiles.

It’s still a mystery to me exactly how inspiration works in designing and making my jewellery. My work has been described as ‘classic but edgy’ and this aptly captures both my love of elegant, clean-lined forms and a taste for things asymmetric.

I make predominantly in sterling silver, using traditional bench skills to form handmade pieces from sheet, wire and chenier.  My range of silver and gemstone necklaces incorporates elements cast from my own handmade silver originals, often combining them with unusual gemstone beads as featured in this collection.

From my first evening-class encounter with a soldering torch twelve years ago, I was hooked on designing and making jewellery.  Now it is my full-time business. I am based in a shared workshop in Stratford, east London, a stone’s throw away from the Olympic Park and my work is on display at the JeDeCo gallery at the Oxo Tower in London.

I like to take inspiration from unusual sources such as Sci-Fi movies and early 20th century art movements such as Futurism and Surrealism. I primarily work in silver which I contrast with oxidised copper parts. I use traditional jewellery making techniques including stone setting and riveting. I try to divide my time between making large original pieces intended for galleries and displays while also creating smaller but stylised pieces intended for retail.

I studied at Plymouth College of Art on the Contemporary Craft course which put a lot of emphasis on hand making techniques as well as well as innovative new designs. I grew up in London which is where I am now based.

My jewellery collection is inspired by a seaside theme – the feel of a pebble in the hand – a smooth texture on the skin – a shape that implies the weathering of storm and tide. I love the beach-combing involved in their collection…So many women share a love for shoreline treasure! However, although I’m […]

SOBU (Sonja Bucherer)

category: Fashion Accessories   Mixed Media and Recycled   Textiles - Clothing

region: London

I’m a north London based designer/maker. My speciality is mixing new and recycled materials, combining different patterns and textures to create highly individual pieces. For the past 13 years I have worked as a textile designer (appliqué and embroidery) for two international exhibiting studios. My designs have sold to high street brands as well as exclusive fashion and interior companies in New York, Australia, Japan, Italy, Paris, Frankfurt and London.
I’ve always loved making things and enjoy the whole creative process: To come up with an idea – then cut, sew, knot, stamp, iron, thread, glue, label – whatever brings the idea to life. I’m an avid collector of fabrics, buttons, ribbons and other curiosities. Beautiful stones, driftwood, books, films, food…all sorts of bizarre discoveries are my inspiration. As well as creating designs commercially and for my own SOBU collection, I have dedicated time over the past nine years to sharing and passing on my passion for the craft by running stitch clubs and craft projects at various north London primary schools. I hope you enjoy some of my creations. Please visit my website via the link below, where you can browse my work or contact me for commercial or private commissions.

Sonja Bessant Jewellery

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: London

Sonja is a self-taught jewellery designer maker from South London who makes high quality, contemporary, handmade jewellery. She grew up in a family who ran a jewellery business and began creating pieces in both her father’s and grandfather’s workshops at a young age.

Sonja often uses pearls and gold as embellishments and etches personalised messages onto silver. Each item is handmade with a passion for making beautiful and, most importantly, wearable jewellery. Her inspiration comes both from living in a big, bustling city, and also, contrastingly, from the simple beauty of nature. Geometric shapes and simple yet beautiful lines often feature in her jewellery collection.

Sonja would like to share her love for jewellery and hopes that people will enjoy wearing her jewellery as much as she likes making each piece. Each item of jewellery is made to order making it truly unique. Prices start from about £25 to about £250 depending on the chosen design and finish.
