Kyra Mihailovic Ceramics

category: Ceramics

region: London

My work in high-fired stoneware and porcelain explores form, colour and pattern to create relatively small scale work with a strong visual impact that may provoke pleasure when viewed and used. My pieces are hand-thrown and turned on the wheel; texture, weight, balance, scale and shape are all important components of my work. I hand paint my work in ceramic colours and oxides before biscuit firing; most of my work is glazed internally in a second, higher firing with exteriors left unglazed. Everyday sensory experience, organic forms, travel and historical artifacts all inspire my ceramics.

category: Fashion Accessories

region: London

Artist, designer, seamstress, I make no difference between fine and applied arts. Autodidact, I enjoy working with and on a variety of media and materials.
Mixed-media artworks, linoleum and woodcut prints become textile designs that are screen-printed by hand onto bags, T-shirts and the likes. Fabric inspires me to design and sew bags and purses that combine elegance, ingenuity and practicality.
Each creation is hand-crafted and unique in its materials, colours, play on designs; they can be made to order and customised to your specifications.

I am a textile designer and handweaver. All my products are designed and woven by me. I use a computerised dobby loom which gives me great flexibility in terms of designing unique and complex textiles. I trained in London at Handweavers Studio and work from my studio in Surrey. I am inspired by both modernist and traditional textiles from across the world, but especially the work of the mid-century Swedish women rug weavers whose work is now highly sought after. My current work is based on a damask weave which is a twill weave giving perfect drape for blankets, and great colour contrast in the pattern. I love the process of weaving, the fascination of following not only in the footsteps of my own ancestors but of practising and keeping alive a process which has gone on for something like twenty centuries of human activity. I also love to create things that will keep people warm, bring them comfort and give them pleasure.

Melisa Dora

category: Ceramics

region: London

I design and make handthrown tableware, one-off large bespoke decorative ceramic trays, tile installations and porcelain jewellery. All of my work is inspired by Turkish architecture and the patterns and colours used on Iznik tiles dating back to the 16th century. My work involves using these traditions with a contemporary approach.
All of my work is decorated by hand. For my jewellery I use a variety of techniques to produce my patterns. I have many plaster boards in which I have hand carve patterns into. I also use slip trailers, underglazes and handmade stamps for my tableware range.
