My memories have formed the way I think and feel and the way in which I work. The found objects I use with the metal and clay, small and insignificant, used and forgotten, are the physical aspect of work that is based on an emotional, nostalgic concept. Tools and utensils, the things we use and […]

After discovering a love for clay at an early age, I went on to study Ceramics at degree level and have been working with ceramics ever since. When designing a new piece I begin with the form and often look at sculptures for inspiration.  Anish Kapoor, Jim Partridge, Andy Goldsworthy and Gordon Baldwin are just a few of that artists that I enjoy and who continue to inspire my own sculptural forms.

I use a combination of techniques to create my pieces. My vases are slip cast then individual scrolls are rolled and applied creating a decorative and practical focus for each piece. I use white earthenware clay fired to 1150ºC which achieves a clean white finish allowing a crisp contrast to the bright colours on the insides of the scrolls.

I am currently working on pieces that translate many of the techniques that I have developed over the years for my sculptures into pieces that can more readily be incorporated into the home and I also have a collection of ceramic jewellery.

Clean structured shapes are amplified and embellished with texture and oxidisation to give each handcrafted piece a unique and contemporary look and feel.

Inspiration for the Formation collection began as a series of experiments on how to transform silver and its surface, which evolved into the intricate and tactile jewellery you see here.

I have always loved to draw. But a lightbulb moment happened when driving along my local high street, observing the vibrancy and activity of a community – shoppers and parents getting from one point to another; pathways crossing and intersecting, given context when placed against recognisable shops and schools. I realised that this passing of […]

I am a designer maker working in porcelain and bone china, and am fascinated by the process and opportunities that slip casting ceramics offers. I enjoy designing highly functional decorative ware for the home, and have particular interest in creating moulds using a lathe. I rely on process and trend forecasting to influence my own style, creating unique and imaginative collections of ceramics that can be styled into the home complementing the environment around it. Function, such as whether a beautifully designed spout of a teapot or lip of a cup pours correctly, is an important factor that is also involved in my design process.

I grew up in the beautiful Scottish Borders where the local industry was textiles. Many of my artistic influences come from all aspects of this industry and from the rich source of folklore and nature.

Working primarily in ceramics I create my homeware and figurative work in stoneware and more recently have developed a range of work in parian. All of the ceramic decals are from my own collection. These are sourced from daily walks and also from pressed flowers and scraps which I occasionally find to my delight in some of my favourite old childhood books.

I am so fortunate to work in a lovely studio placed perfectly in my garden overlooking the fields and hills of the Welland valley in Leicestershire.

Jo Turner – Brampton On Sea

category: Mixed Media & Recycled

region: East Midlands

I create personalised whimsical scenes using recycled materials and treasures collected from nature. I collect everything I use from my garden, local area and family excursions. I keep boxes or packaging that catches my eye and that I think would make a great ‘frame’ for a little tale.

Experimenting with different pressed flowers and dried stems, I delicately make layers to create the different picture boxes. Capturing a story or a simple moment in time.

Made for any occasion, the possibilities are endless. I love meeting or hearing about new people and creating a special work of art just for them. I am currently creating pieces that aren’t made to order to build up a wider range of work. Each piece I create is unique just like each and every one of us…

Kirsty Freeman Design

category: Textiles & Stitch - Interiors

region: East Midlands

I have a passion for drawing, embellishment and colour, and love to translate the beautiful things that I see in this world into unique and special works of art. My work is mainly embroidery & print based, making everything from stitched cushions & bags, to printed cards & coasters. I am inspired by work that has a strong sense of imagery, and aim to create an essence of beauty in my designs through the use of drawing and pattern making.

I graduated from De Montfort University, Leicester, in 2017 with a 1st Class (Hons) Degree in Textile Design. Throughout my work, I aim to push techniques to the limit: for example, translating my research into designs through embellishment, print, or fabric construction. To create my stitch based products, I combine the use of digital embroidery technology with traditional hand embroidery and beading techniques.

Lillyford Mill

category: Jewellery & Silverware

region: East Midlands

At Lillyford Mill we create exquisite, wearable works of art that inspire moments of optimism and happiness. With thoughtfulness, originality, freshness and craftsmanship, we give more back to the earth than we take from it. As a jeweller each piece I design has a story to tell, a story inspired by people I have met, their strength, their vulnerability, and their ability to survive. Places I have been, experiences I have had, and the people in my life who I love all play a role in my designs. I truly believe that your jewellery should inspire moments of optimism and happiness, it should reflect who you are, make you smile when you wear it and give you confidence. Crafted with ethically sourced, sustainable, and recycled materials using traditional skills and tools, each piece is handmade with love, passion, and a little bit of “me”.

Luckie Woodworking UK

category: Furniture & Wood

region: East Midlands

Born in 1955 I took early retirement back in 2018 I decided to form my own woodworking workshop. Being a time served engineer I enjoyed making things hence I decided to make things out of wood but the difference is that the items have to be high precision which has been my ethos in the engineering. So I prefer to make one offs or small quantity production items so I’m not tied down to the same things all the time. I like to design and produce fine furniture based on receiving commissions, should I be lucky enough to have clients willing to give me their business I welcome the challenges it brings for Modern Contemporary style.

In taking the vision of clients and producing bespoke furniture that comes to life gives great pleasure as a furniture maker.
