region: South West

I find weaving to be an endlessly fascinating craft – watching how the different colours and yarns interact in the warp and weft, or playing with the structure of the cloth to create a new texture or pattern is something I will never tire of.
My aim is to create hand woven textiles that are equally attractive to the hand as to the eye. Textiles are a part of our everyday lives from a christening shawl, a comforting blanket to an elegant shawl, so it is important to enjoy them.

Madeleine Jude

category: Textiles & Stitch - Interiors   Textiles - Clothing

region: London   South East

I am a textile designer and handweaver. All my products are designed and woven by me. I use a computerised dobby loom which gives me great flexibility in terms of designing unique and complex textiles. I trained in London at Handweavers Studio and work from my studio in Surrey. I am inspired by both modernist and traditional textiles from across the world, but especially the work of the mid-century Swedish women rug weavers whose work is now highly sought after. My current work is based on a damask weave which is a twill weave giving perfect drape for blankets, and great colour contrast in the pattern. I love the process of weaving, the fascination of following not only in the footsteps of my own ancestors but of practising and keeping alive a process which has gone on for something like twenty centuries of human activity. I also love to create things that will keep people warm, bring them comfort and give them pleasure.

maribru knitwear

category: Textiles - Clothing

region: London

I am a textile designer maker knitting garments and accessories. I create pieces which are timeless because they do not follow trends and unique in style since they combine different traditional techniques in a personal way. My items are a mix of machine knitting, crocheting and/or hand knitting, all finished by hand with attention to quality and detail, my work has a strong focus on handmade craft. I use pure undyed organic Shetland wool, I bring my Italian aesthetic sense to a material that comes from landscapes, traditions and a way of life so different from my own and is usually knitted into traditional motifs like fair isle patterns. The use of only undyed wool is a central aspect of my work: the colours that come naturally from the sheep are rich and warm and help me create my personal style, which is rustic in the textures of the garments, romantic but also chic, simple and contemporary. My prices go from around £30 for wristwarmers to around £240 for a jumper, with most other items in between these prices.

I have been designing and creating hand-loomed knitwear for many years. My experience has been gained in fashion houses in both London and abroad. The business is run on the value of high quality products and the knitwear collection is, therefore, made using the finest yarns.
I love to create garments which “move” when worn and try to produce fluid, elegant pieces which are also versatile and can be worn for a range of occasions. As an experienced knitwear designer, I am able to create made-to-measure garments with just three measurements. My broad-based clientele regularly return for more bespoke knitwear due to the high quality products and made-to-measure fit.

SOBU (Sonja Bucherer)

category: Fashion Accessories   Mixed Media and Recycled   Textiles - Clothing

region: London

I’m a north London based designer/maker. My speciality is mixing new and recycled materials, combining different patterns and textures to create highly individual pieces. For the past 13 years I have worked as a textile designer (appliqué and embroidery) for two international exhibiting studios. My designs have sold to high street brands as well as exclusive fashion and interior companies in New York, Australia, Japan, Italy, Paris, Frankfurt and London.
I’ve always loved making things and enjoy the whole creative process: To come up with an idea – then cut, sew, knot, stamp, iron, thread, glue, label – whatever brings the idea to life. I’m an avid collector of fabrics, buttons, ribbons and other curiosities. Beautiful stones, driftwood, books, films, food…all sorts of bizarre discoveries are my inspiration. As well as creating designs commercially and for my own SOBU collection, I have dedicated time over the past nine years to sharing and passing on my passion for the craft by running stitch clubs and craft projects at various north London primary schools. I hope you enjoy some of my creations. Please visit my website via the link below, where you can browse my work or contact me for commercial or private commissions.
