I am based in Cornwall and make colourful contemporary blown glass including solid glass cupcakes and hanging vases.

MeltedGlass

category: Glass

My work revolves around an abstract, contemporary interpretation of our early human interactions with materials, our interaction with the world and how we perceive ourselves and our environment through image and object.

There is a commonality to adornment which has somehow followed the human species throughout its evolution – decoration and adornment of ourselves and our surroundings is an important part of our lives – it is almost intrinsic to our humanity. We ‘leave our mark’ on the world and on ourselves; we are creative, resourceful and expressive.

I work with glass because it has many personalities and I find it interesting to test it and push it to behave as I want, or at least as far as it will allow. Techniques hinting at mosaic, stained glass and illustration, together with combinations of richly coloured glass and metallics result in wall art, sculpture and objects which are engaging, expressive and unique.

Moriath Glass

category: Glass

region: Wales

I work with various warm glass techniques, layering the glass with powders and paint, and often incorporating leaves and printed or stencilled designs. Layers of glass replicate the layers and strata of the land – hills, skies, beaches, rivers and seas.

Living and working on a smallholding in west Wales I am surrounded by the most wonderful inspiration. I step out of the studio to gather hawthorn, oak and ivy leaves to encase in glass; I look up and spot a pair of ravens skyfalling in dazzling sunlight; I look down and gaze through the reflective surface of the pond to the life teeming in the layers beneath. Prices range from £3.50 to £250. Commissions accepted.

Orchid Stained Glass

category: Glass

region: South East

I use traditional copper foil and lead techniques to create my lamps, panels, terrariums, tableware and jewellery. The copper foil technique I employ is the same as used by the Tiffany Studios in the late 19th century. However, I use it to create unique designs that fit any interior. It is a labour-intensive and slow process but the results make it worthwhile and I like the fact that I am keeping a little-known skill alive and combining art and artisan. I am inspired mainly by the style and ethos of the designers of the Arts & Crafts Movement and love the Art Deco and Art Nouveau periods particularly.

Phoenix Stained Glass

I am an artist working in the medium of glass. I am constantly inspired by the beauty and clarity of light in the Isles of Scilly, where I live and where my studio is located.

Having trained in traditional leaded light stained glass which I still make to commission, I also make small scale traditional hanging panels, fused glass freestanding sculptures and framed pictures using pallet wood and fused glass.

Rana Cullimore

category: Glass   Mixed Media and Recycled

region: South West

I have been creating mosaic art for many years as a hobby. My first heart shaped mosaic came to life when I wanted to make something from a chipped dinner plate that belonged to my Grandparents to remember them by. As well as using the traditional materials of recycled china and colourful mosaic tesserae my love of the sea and beach combing has also influenced my work.

Some pieces have a coastal theme using pebbles, driftwood and shells. I also incorporate glass beads which is another fascination of mine. The nature of the materials I use on my mosaics makes each piece individual and unique. All the pieces are designed and handmade by me in my home….far away from the sea!

Roxanne Denny

category: Glass

region: North West

Roxanne graduated in 2008, gaining a BA(Hons) in applied art, specialising in glass. She currently produces cast and fused glass pieces and dichroic glass jewellery. With her cast glass items she likes to work in a way which challenges the perception of glass being ‘fragile’ by producing thick, chunky pieces, often using solid colours and contrasting textures. With her fused glass pieces and jewellery she concentrates on the way that the colours can be transmitted by light and on patterns within the glass. Her work is always bold and vibrant, as colour plays an important role. She is happy to discuss commissions of any variety.

I have always been intrigued by the colours and textures of the coast, by wide horizons, big skies and shingle beaches. I have been working with glass since 1998, fusing it with metals and oxides to create objects that, I hope, evoke long forgotten feelings of walking along the seashore with a pocketful of shells. sarah watts jewellery

category: Glass   Jewellery and Silverware

region: Wales

I am a self-taught designer-maker creating richly detailed and decorative jewellery using glass, sterling silver, wire and linen in my home studio in Wales.
I use the ancient Lampwork technique to make detailed opaque glass beads, crafting each bead by hand from molten glass in a hot flame. Each bead begins with a vision of the shape and decorative style I am aiming for. However, the detailed choices of colour and pattern are in response to the dynamic nature of the process of glass reacting with flame. I employ traditional silversmithing techniques and steel wire bound with waxed linen cord to create finished pieces.
My work is influenced by my love of colour, decoration and texture. My inspirations range from illustrated Medieval manuscripts and Ottoman empire ceramics to 1950’s fabric design and traditional Indian textiles. I create richly coloured decorative jewellery which acknowledges these historical influences.

Standing On A Beach

category: Glass

region: Scotland

Each item is created from layering pieces of glass and fusing to create texture and structure. Initially the glass is cut from cold hard sheets, after firing the glass seems to warm and soften developing a sense of fluidity. Opaque and translucent colours are used together to create a feeling of movement from the light transmission through the fired piece.

Each firing is unique, it is unpredictable, and it has a life force of its own. I am always excited when opening the kiln, you never know exactly what the outcome will be, but it is always beautiful.

Wolf in the Shed

category: Glass

region: North West

I work with fused and stained glass. I am fascinated by the way light works with colour. There is importance in the time of day, the weather, or a reflection from water. Pattern and textures become visible and the angle which the light enters the glass takes on new importance.

I also enjoy the way vague blocks of colour can suggest a place or object. I create the sense of a scene through the colours melted into glass.

Recent designs have been based around using stained glass in more sculptural forms. Lead is flexible and relatively soft and it allows me to bend and alter a form as I am making.

Work is available from under £10 up to many hundreds. Working to commission is a real challenge, but I find myself developing ideas in new and unexpected directions.
