I trained by hand in commercial art and fashion studios. A paste-up artist for IPC comics, oil paint make-up artist for display mannequins, couture belts and covered buttons using hand sewing and textile glue, and draftswoman for NCR. Beaded Blooms

category: 3D Sculptural Work   Fashion Accessories   Mixed Media & Recycled

region: South East

I design and create bespoke handcrafted French Beaded flowers to treasure through stringing thousands of 2mm glass seed-beads onto fine craft-wire, with a combination of twists and wraps.

French Beading is a 19th century art form that has gone through waves of popularity. Believed to have originated in both Italy and France, the craft was predominantly favoured by women in order to earn a little money of their own and to decorate their homes. In the Victorian era French Beading became associated with the passing of a loved one as many memorials were created using the technique.

I research each bloom I replicate before I begin designing. Flowers have such a powerful impact on us, creating memories, improving our mental health and sending messages, so it is really important that my designs are as accurate as possible and that they capture the splendour of the blooms I replicate.

Individually hand cut leather items lovingly sewn by Suzanne from her home studio and studio 9 at Manchester’s Craft and Design Centre. After completing a degree in Embroidery in Manchester, Suzanne continued to explore her love of traditional embroidery techniques such as straight stitching, French knots, appliqué and buttonhole designs which she uses to enhance the simple shapes she creates for her leather bags and accessories. Although each product is designed to be reproduced each product is individual and no two are exactly the same.

Suzanne is influenced by simple shapes and colour combinations which can be found from objects all around us. She strives to make functional, loveable items from leather and other natural materials, examples of her work can be found on her website which is constantly updated with new work. To commission something from Suzanne please contact her through her website.

Dr Bean’s Bags

category: Fashion Accessories

region: South East

Dr Bean’s Bags are designed and made on the Isle of Wight. The Island is a creative environment and the seaside location was the inspiration for the initial concept; a simple yet strong bag that reflected a nautical situation. Use of natural fabrics, such as canvas and ticking, jute rope for handles epitomise the Classic Yachting heritage of Cowes. An eyelet and shackle add a pleasing finishing touch and each bag is individually numbered, much like a sail.

Our bags incorporate recognised phrases, poems and text, with stitched detail and appliqué. We like to celebrate the eccentricities of English life, which probably explains that the most popular style of bag features an extract from the daily ‘Shipping Forecast’.

In the world of Dr Bean, the forecast is always sunny – and can be made especially for the area you request.

Fruitbat Textiles

category: Fashion Accessories   Textiles - Clothing

region: South West

I am an award winning Somerset based hand weaver, dyer and milliner specialising in unique, luxury British wool accessories for men and women. My work is carefully created using traditional skills and techniques and is inspired by the South West countryside.
I hand dye (often painting) all of the wool myself, hand weave it on one of two Counter March looms and hand finish the cloth before making it into the finished products.
I trained in Textiles for Fashion & Interiors, specialising in Woven textiles, learning the millinery element of my work alongside my degree while working as a Milliners’ Assistant. I am hugely passionate about keeping traditional crafts alive within the country and work hard to educate society about the skills and standards needed to create traditional hand crafted pieces.
My often bespoke, unique pieces for women and men range from scarves and wraps, ties, cufflinks, flat caps and other casual style hats, to occasion wear such as hats and fascinators. I also welcome commissions.

Heron Design Studio

category: Fashion Accessories

region: London

Heron Design Studio specializes in textile design. At the moment my main focus is on hand-painted fashion accessories such as silk scarves, shawls and hand painted silk wall art. As I am passionate about nature, most of my designs reflect this.
I am classically trained fine artist but I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of wearable art. So naturally, painting on silk has come as the best idea. Heron Design Studio aims to create such wearable pieces of art that will be timeless and versatile. Every piece that is created is unique.
Every design is sketched first on a piece of paper. That is followed by colours being carefully picked. After that the scarf is painted (free hand) with no stencils or aids. Small imperfections are just a part of hand painting process and make the painting unique and unrepeatable. Each of the motives created has different technique (metallic outliner or watercolour technique etc) and different material (different types of silk fabrics) used. That is because suitability is carefully considered.

Ingterior

category: Fashion Accessories   Jewellery & Silverware   Mixed Media & Recycled

region: South West

I work full time handcrafting statement jewellery from my makeshift studio in Devon. Obsessed with fashion, music and art, my work is fundamentally inspired by street culture, graffiti and skateboarding.

Graduating with a Fashion & Textiles degree from University in Bristol in the 90’s, I started out designing streetwear and became connected to the cities reinventing underground music and art scenes. My addiction to street culture is at the heart of everything I do, so I choose to work with traditional graffiti techniques, spray paint, paint markers and acrylics, while using materials more commonly associated with skateboarding such as plywood and grip tape. I love taking these raw elements to craft beautifully designed one of a kind statement pieces.

region: South West

I design and makes leather purses, bags and accessories. Based in Bristol my range includes jewellery, corsages, hair accessories, small coin purses, large purses, clutch bags and handbags.

Every piece created is cut and assembled by hand ensuring it’s uniqueness. I enjoy experimenting with floral shapes, which are all individually hand cut to create dense areas of interesting texture, maximising the sculptural qualities of the soft nappa leather. The purses are lined with quirky coordinating patterned linings. All fabrics are carefully sourced so combinations keep changing in order to keep items individual. All items are hand-crafted with every detail carefully considered ensuring each item is both functional, beautiful and tactile. I enjoy creating beautiful containers such as purses and bags for people to carry around their treasured possessions, which are as beautiful on the inside as they are outside.

LeChatPonti

category: Fashion Accessories

region: London

Artist, designer, seamstress, I make no difference between fine and applied arts. Autodidact, I enjoy working with and on a variety of media and materials. Mixed-media artworks, linoleum and woodcut prints become textile designs that are screen-printed by hand onto bags, T-shirts and the likes. Fabric inspires me to design and sew bags and purses that combine elegance, ingenuity and practicality.

Each creation is hand-crafted and unique in its materials, colours, play on designs; they can be made to order and customised to your specifications.
