Contemporary slipware potter, using traditional techniques of slip trailing and sgraffito to create delicate contemporary porcelain pieces. All my pieces are hand thrown on the potters wheel, and then painted and carved, or slip trailed, to create pattern and texture. Sheena Spacey Ceramics

category: Ceramics

region: South West

My works are primarily hand built ceramics, and are inspired from storybooks, wanderings, small interesting tales and nature. Always following my heart, I love seeing things in a simple way, inspired by folk art and fables. I interpret my imaginary scenes into clay, frequently using either porcelain or porcelain paperclay into little narrative scenes on hilltops (some with hidden secret additions inside), folkstyle figures using leaves and foliage as decoration and sometimes with some mixed media additions, and hand made ceramic buttons and decorative hearts. Items range in scale from hand made ceramic buttons up to individual narrative sculptural pieces.

Shirley creates wall hung and freestanding sculptures and shadow frames, using white earthenware to hand form flower components, small creatures, birds and fish. Texture is embossed into the surface. Under glazes and oxides are applied to give layers of colour. These are then assembled together with driftwood, wire, reclaimed maps, vintage magazines and other interesting […]

I graduated from Falmouth College of Arts with an honours degree in Contemporary Crafts, where after experimenting with many materials I gravitated towards ceramics and its endless possibilities. I have since moved to Buckinghamshire where I have set up my studio at home creating handcrafted ceramics, mostly functional, inspired by the natural world and my love of entomology. All of my work is foodsafe, microwave and dishwasher safe.

I am a self taught ceramicist specialising in wheel-thrown porcelain. My pieces range from large vessels to delicate tea light holders. My current Seascape range is influenced by the ocean, crashing waves and the ever expansive skies. I’m attempting to create drama whilst not over complicating the piece, somehow allowing the object to remain quiet yet […]

Susan Swales Ceramics

region: London

I handbuild with porcelain and stoneware. I generally make small, sculptural elephants, who are often seen in unlikely situations. Most of the time they are acting out a phrase or sentence, and I play with ideas of scale and gravity to add a comical air to the pieces.

I also make elephants with fabric-inspired patterns, and the occasional figure or vessel.

I studied Ceramic Design and Central Saint Martin’s, London, graduating in 2007. My current price range is £27 to £370.

I produce single fired, earthenware pottery. My work is wheel thrown and handmade using a loose slab making technique. My work is loosely made and decorated, and imperfections, for me, are to be celebrated. I concentrate on individual pieces but make sets of plates cups, beakers which are similar. Pots slip and sgraffito decorated. My work is to be used, made for food and drink and I hope it will be fun and unusual.

Tiffany Scull Ceramics

region: South West

I work from my studio in Dorset, specialising in creating wheel thrown detailed, unique ceramic pieces decorated with my own coloured clay slips, carving and sgraffito. The slips and techniques I use have developed over the years, supported by a love of ceramics that was kindled at art college and matured while working at a pottery. My work has evolved to create a very distinctive style, inspired by the natural world as well as The Arts and Crafts movement, Art Nouveau and several different artists.

Whilst studying for my degree in Norway my main Ceramics tutor told us not to attempt using the potter’s wheel during our studies as he insisted the course did not allow us enough hours practice to master the craft. Being a typical student, I felt extremely provoked by this statement. Determined to prove him wrong […]
