If you’ve a degree in jewellery, silversmithing, metalwork or similar, have an eye for detail and patient and methodical disposition, this could be just the role for you…
“anOrdain is a small creative watchmaking company comprised of watchmakers, jewellers and desighers, and we are looking for someone to join our team.
The role would suit a graduate with at least a couple of years post-university experience in a field related to their degree, even if that’s on the side of a rent-paying job.
Enamelling will be taught on the job, so there’s no need to have experience there. What is necessary though is to have an understanding of materials, to be good at problem solving, and to work in a methodical, almost scientific way. We work with tolerances which are quite far removed from jewellery and so a real eye for detail is essential.
The work we do is often quite pioneering and there is no textbook or guidance on how things should be done, so if you can bring an area of expertise to the team this would be a great advantage.
This is essentially an enamelling apprenticeship where you will be trained to make watch dials in enamel, but some of this training will be difficult during the pandemic, so you will also be required to help support the existing enamelers with preparatory work.
The role is full-time, with some flexibility in case-by-case circumstances. Salary is £18k initially, and then £22k after 6 months. We have a company share scheme which you’ll be eligible to join after a year, and there is also the possibility of travel. Pre-Covid, the enamelers visited NY and California several times to do demonstrations, although this is entirely optional.
If you can send digital examples of work along with a brief covering letter, that would be great. We’re really stretched at the moment, so unfortunately we can’t reply to everyone.”
