Development Opportunity – ReCast Artist in Training

This exciting opportunity is for a Staffordshire-based ceramic artist who enjoys working with people.

British Ceramics Biennial (BCB) and Stoke Recovery Service (SRS) are looking for a Staffordshire-based ceramicist to support ReCast – a project combining creativity, addiction recovery and clay. They are looking for someone who:

  1. Would like to learn about working creatively with people in addiction recovery.
  2. Can help experienced artist Joanne Mills with practical studio tasks, and support members of the group with their work.
  3. Is committed to respecting the confidentiality of members of the ReCast group.

You will need to travel to the project venues. Initially, you will be asked to observe workshops and get to know the group. You will be asked to reflect on the sessions and take brief notes.

During the residency, you will help Joanne Mills to prepare and keep the work space clean and tidy. This will involve preparing clay and cleaning tools. The second week will include a raku firing. You do not need prior experience with this process. This may involve working as part of a team to lift and carry equipment.

During this opportunity you might talk briefly about your own practice, answer questions relating to the making processes Joanne Mills demonstrates, or give informal feedback on people’s work.
