Clay College Stoke is an exciting new venture from the Adopt a Potter Charitable Trust. Based in Middleport, the College will open in September 2017 and aims to provide a comprehensive training in the art of the potter to 14 full-time students as well as providing masterclasses and evening classes for the local community. The focus will be on core skills and use of materials as well as the development of good design and practice through research, creativity and invention.
Clay College Stoke is looking for a self-motivated and dynamic Course Director, with prior experience of teaching ceramics, to manage the design, development, organisation, and delivery of the teaching programme. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a personal mastery of, and an ability to teach, all aspects of throwing, glazing, kiln building and firing, alongside traditional hand building and decoration techniques. A flexible approach to teaching methods and a broad knowledge of historic and contemporary ceramics with a global perspective are essential. Excellent communication skills and the ability to represent the college in all parts of the ceramic world and to develop and maintain strong links with local industry as well as master potters in the UK and overseas are required.
