Call for maker for Public Intervention at St Chads in Thurrock

The Crafts Council in partnership with Thurrock Council are looking to commission a contemporary Craft Maker/ Designer in any craft discipline to create a temporary/permanent work for new housing in Thurrock.

Crafting the Future of Thurrock aims to develop a strong, confident, ambitious creative offer that builds local capacity, and is informed by the heritage and landscape of the towns and villages of this area.   This project seeks to engage local communities and businesses in a range of creative opportunities that recognise and respond to local needs.

A maker is to create and install a temporary/permanent commission at the new development at St Chads. Applicants should consider their intervention to have a practical use to the community ideally for long term and materials with minimal maintenance requirements.

Criteria for Makers:- A maker with at least 3 years commissioning experience, Experience of working with community groups, Willingness to write a blog, A current DBS and public liability insurance.

Commissioned makers will be expected to attend meetings with partners, work within the timescale and budget and share/show work in progress.

Budget: £6,200 total (inclusive of expenses and VAT)

Breakdown of Public Intervention: £5,500 + Deliver 2 community workshops @ £350 each (inclusive of costs and materials).
