Habitats – an exhibition by Alloy Jewellers

11th November 2016 - 7th January 2017

‘Alloy’ is The Courtyard’s resident company of jewellers and silversmiths, with a busy workshop situated within the building. For this major gallery exhibition, Alloy aim to extend and dramatise the presentation of their work using performance, film and video, as well as documentary photography and more conventional means of display.

Entitled ‘Habitats’ this exhibition takes as it’s starting point from a poem by a local writer, Omar Majeed, describing the countryside and animal habitats within it. Each of the contributing artists took a section of this poem as their inspiration. The brief was to produce a piece or body of work that would give each maker an opportunity to expand their existing skills, maybe taking them outside their comfort zone with new materials and techniques.

The work on show is varied, ranging from wearable pieces, ideas that have involved a community project, figurative and abstracted items all of which have evolved over the past year.

This exhibition includes work by madebyhandonline maker Nicola Lillie.
