Cockpit Arts Summer Open Studios – Deptford

Join Cockpit Arts for this perfect opportunity to buy direct from independent makers – from master craftspeople and artist-makers as well as a selected group of Cockpit Arts’ alumni.

Makers new to the Holborn incubator include fashion jeweller Niza Huang, digitally minded textiles artist Danny Lee, handweaver Laura Woodhouse and contemporary embroiderer Hannah Refaat. Cockpit Arts Ceramics Residency awardee Victoria Andrew will be exhibiting at her first Open Studios in Deptford.

Demonstrations and activities will take place on the Saturday and Sunday:

1.30 – 2 pm | Lighting for makers and collectors
In this practical introduction, glass artist Shelley James will demonstrate options for lighting artworks: spots, strips and washes and the pros and cons of different technologies: incandescent, halogen and LED. She will finish with a brief guide to watts, lumens, colour temperature and IP protection.

2.15 – 2.45 pm | Painting on Water
Watch paper marbler, Lucy McGrath demonstrates her craft; ‘floating’ paint on a bath of thickened water, manipulating it to create striking patterns and transferring these on to paper and 3-D forms.
