Seedheads, Grasses & Flowers – embroidery with Alison Whateley

I am a self taught textile artist based in Mid Devon. I have always had a love of both sewing and art and have now combined the two interests to create beautiful individual pieces of textile art inspired by nature. Free motion machine embroidery is a very addictive technique which is becoming very popular. Learn how to draw in stitch using your sewing machine, and take home a finished piece of textile art all ready to hang on your wall. This workshop focuses on producing a piece of work based on the theme of seedheads, grasses and flowers.

I will start the day by going through the basic techniques, including how to set up your sewing machine. I will then guide you through the process of choosing your composition, looking at colour combinations, selecting fabrics, and stitching the detail. I will demonstrate each stage as we go along and supply inspiration in the form of photographs and actual plant specimens for you to draw from. If you have images of your own you would like to use please feel free to bring them along.

Once your piece is completed I will finish the day by teaching you how to mount and frame it, ready for you to take home with you.

Cost: £55, including a large selection of fabrics, lace, buttons and beads and other basic materials: note that you will need to bring a sewing machine that can be adapted for free motion embroidery. For further information and to book, please follow the link below.
