category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: East Midlands

My name is Nicola Williams from Made By Daisy. I began my jewellery range in 2011 after graduating with a degree in Modelmaking. It was during my degree that my love for materials blossomed and so I like to vary the materials that I work with. My current jewellery ranges include adjustable brass cuffs, often inspired by my surroundings here in the Peak District.
I also have a range of resin jewellery inspired by pattern and the Harajuku scene in Japan.

I create jewellery with a playful feel that is a pleasure to wear and own, finding inspiration in the things I love to collect, vintage fabrics, buttons and natural forms collected on walks near my home. I studied Jewellery Design and Making BA Hons at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University, graduating in 2007. Since then I have been producing my jewellery and sell through galleries and individual boutiques.
My collection includes charm bracelets, earrings and necklaces, each one slightly different due to the hand made elements and precious vintage buttons that are in limited supply. I first crochet, knot or plait natural hemp/cotton cord to form the base for my pieces. Using copper and silver wire, I create planished charms in a variety of organic shapes, some oxidised. Vintage buttons and beads along with etched wooden veneer charms that feature my own intricate organic designs complete the pieces.

We are two sisters with a shared love of sewing and making things that goes right back to our childhood. We are inspired by our love of recycling, junk shop hunting and our passion for sewing. We love the idea that we are making something beautiful from discarded materials. We create cushions, soft toys and accessories to our own original design. We like to think that our work is traditional with a quirky, modern edge to it. Apart from an A level in Art we are entirely self taught but are carrying on a strong family tradition of making. Our unique ‘signature’ is the use of recycled woolen blankets which we then embroider onto.We think our work is fun; it makes people smile. Most of our products are limited editions mostly due to the recycled material of the materials used.

region: London   South East

I am a textile designer and handweaver. All my products are designed and woven by me. I use a computerised dobby loom which gives me great flexibility in terms of designing unique and complex textiles. I trained in London at Handweavers Studio and work from my studio in Surrey. I am inspired by both modernist and traditional textiles from across the world, but especially the work of the mid-century Swedish women rug weavers whose work is now highly sought after. My current work is based on a damask weave which is a twill weave giving perfect drape for blankets, and great colour contrast in the pattern. I love the process of weaving, the fascination of following not only in the footsteps of my own ancestors but of practising and keeping alive a process which has gone on for something like twenty centuries of human activity. I also love to create things that will keep people warm, bring them comfort and give them pleasure.

I am based in Cornwall and make colourful contemporary blown glass including solid glass cupcakes and hanging vases.
My ideas are drawn from plants and flowers and the actual process of manipulating hot glass. It is a bewitching process that is constantly challenging.
I am always happy to work to commission, enjoying the process of working with a client.

category: Mixed Media and Recycled

region: North East

I make a variety of small artworks, homewares and wearable items from recycled, vintage and discarded materials.
I studied Jewellery & Silversmithing at Glasgow School of Art, where I became interested in working with mixed materials. I am most inspired by nature, fairytales and antiquity, creating one-off or limited quantity collages, which are box framed. Other works include textile jewellery, framed textile collages, and handmade cards. I have a studio/shop in Durham city.
I try to reuse as many old objects and materials as possible, sourcing from antique fairs, markets and thrift shops. Old cutlery boxes, vintage textiles, scrap papers, old books, broken jewellery and haberdashers’ materials are some the treasures I enjoy working with.

region: South West

My craft is painting birds of prey (my inspiration) on to feathers and small slices of tree branch. I use acrylic paints over a light layer of gesso, and a very light touch with a paintbrush. My feathers are presented either in a small ceramic vase made locally or in a specially made box frame. I display the wooden ovals on miniature easels.
I have a Fine Art Degree and an MA in Printmaking but I currently enjoy painting wildlife using a variety of media. I help at a falconry centre where my inspiration and fascination with feathers comes from to create my art.
