My work as an artist has evolved from my experiences as a child, within the South Wales valleys. I have explored traditional stitch and print within my work, reflecting on the working class values of community life with its humour and warmth. My work also reflects on the women who were in my life as […]

I fabricate my Sterling Silver jewellery using traditional metalworking techniques such as piercing, forming, forging and soldering. I often add milled or acid etched texture or contrasting metal and use patination to highlight detail.
Some pieces may feature a cast element, these elements I cast myself from my hand carved master.
I draw inspiration from poems, stories and journeys through the imagination which can lead to quirky figurative pieces which I produce in limited designs. I sometimes use a text alongside a piece to provide humour or explanation about the design.

Though primarily a metalworker (cast iron, forged steel, copper…) recent work development has resulted me to working with porcelain – a return to ceramics. My training has spanned across the ‘Craft’ and ‘Art’ disciplines, as does my work. Experimentation is key to the development of my work, which is inspired by the livestock & plant life found in my natural environment ~ particularly the tiny details; the curl of a new shoot; the structure of a seedpod; the hipbones of a dairy cow. My concerns over intensive farming and human impact on the environment also influence what I do.

bone heart

category: Jewellery and Silverware

region: Wales

After graduating from University College Falmouth in Contemporary Craft (2008) specialising in glass I worked in a glass blowing studio in New Zealand for one year. It was here that my interest in bone carving was first sparked. I instantly fell in love with the intricate, beautiful jewellery made from bone and wanted to have a go myself. I did and have not put down my tools since.
I feel most inspired when out in nature, this connection with nature rejuvenates me, inspires me and makes me happy. The materials I work with resonate with me in the same way.
Bone has great creative and tactile potential, it is soft and warm to the touch. When worn against the skin over time bone picks up your natural oils and self polishes.

Brombles Handmade with Love

category: Textiles & Stitch - Interiors

region: Wales

I studied Fine Art for my degree in Cardiff and having lived by the coast am greatly influenced by the natural landscape and use of colour. Over the last few years I have started to use my skills to produce quality handmade soft furnishings.

I use quality fabrics (designer cottons, handwoven cottons, velvet, silk and linen) to create unique, well made statement pieces. I also use my own images from my paintings on cushions and lightshades.

I make coordinating sets of cushions and shades.

After completing her BA (hons) in Carmarthen, Kirsty moved to Cardiff. She has set up home in her studio where Kirsty designs, makes and alters to her heart’s content. Home and the use of the spaces that we occupy are the source and the basis of her creative practice.

A new line of customised vintage furniture has been emerging which runs alongside her statement lighting collection ‘Sphery’. Each piece is chosen for its bold shapes and then is lovingly transformed. They are given a new lease of life with a fabric twist: old G plan chairs and 60’s dresses look fantastic and are a great decorative statement in any home. There is never two of a kind.

Individual home accessories have been slowly taking over the shelves and walls of the studios – see what’s the newest creation to take home.

I work from my studio on the coast of the beautiful Gower Peninsula. I specialise in creating contemporary and original black and white papercut artwork. I love simple, bold and graphic imagery and I aim to create designs that bring a smile. I am inspired by the naivity of primitive art, the humour of childrens’ […]
