Ann Povey’s work involves two distinct elements, the handmade and found objects. The objects have been used, discarded and forgotten, they appear to have little or no intrinsic value but seem to dictate what their ultimate purpose will be and which material they will be partnered with. Working with ceramics and metals, traditional Chasing and […]

I create contemporary, handmade jewellery using precious metals and gemstones. My inspiration is found in the intriguing shapes, forms and textures of the natural environment around me. The smoothness of a sea-tumbled pebble, the curious shapes of late summer seedpods, the textures and patterns of bark – these are all typical of the things that […]

After discovering a love for clay at an early age, I went on to study Ceramics at degree level and have been working with ceramics ever since.

When designing a new piece I begin with the form and often look at sculptures for inspiration.  Anish Kapoor, Jim Partridge, Andy Goldsworthy and Gordon Baldwin are just a few of that artists that I enjoy and who continue to inspire my own sculptural forms.

I use a combination of techniques to create my pieces. My vases are slip cast then individual scrolls are rolled and applied creating a decorative and practical focus for each piece. I use white earthenware clay fired to 1150ºC which achieves a clean white finish allowing a crisp contrast to the bright colours on the insides of the scrolls.

I am currently working on pieces that translate many of the techniques that I have developed over the years for my sculptures into pieces that can more readily be incorporated into the home and I also have a collection of ceramic jewellery.

I have always loved to draw. But a lightbulb moment happened when driving along my local high street, observing the vibrancy and activity of a community – shoppers and parents getting from one point to another; pathways crossing and intersecting, given context when placed against recognisable shops and schools. I realised that this passing of […]

I produce hand-painted decorative porcelain jugs, cups, cake stands and brooches using a variety of slip casting and hand-building techniques. Each piece is essentially a canvas for decoration and collage as I combine drawings with found ephemera. I am inspired by nostalgia, old paper ephemera, vintage textiles and a love of drawing. I am fascinated […]

My work has always had a textiles influence behind it, the structure of fabric and the free forms that the creases and folds created has become the backbone of my pieces. Combining textiles with porcelain in unconventional ways, pushing the boundaries between the marriage of textiles and ceramics has been the inspiration behind my work. I have two […]

I’m a jewellery designer-maker from Leicestershire. I design and make unique resin jewellery featuring stunning fragments of vintage textiles which I’ve been collecting for many years. I love visiting antique centres, vintage shops and fairs across the UK to source inspiration and unusual vintage material to feature in my work. Materials are embedded in resin, allowing them to be preserved so that they can be treasured for eternity. My collections are sold through gallery outlets and gift boutique across the UK and I exhibit at various events throughout the year.
